⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
If you cannot deal with accidents, injuries do not proceed with the other content presented.
I am sharing this to create awareness and ensure the safety of other people moving forward, whilst also accepting responsibility for my own actions, thanking and showing homage to God ✝️ in his mercy, grace and protection and allowing my wider circle of friends across social media who are also travelling in destinations such as this to better be equipped with this knowledge moving forward.
First thing is first, I am well. Do not think otherwise.
On Wednesday 2nd July, I was involved in a serious scooter accident, by which I am lucky to be alive with limited damage considering. I must admit, it was rather foolish of me to not wear my helmet and something I will not take for granted going forward, this is quite common in Indonesia amongst locals and tourists alike, however no excuse. I am quite an experienced motorcycle rider myself and this came to as some surprise to me, we're only human, we're not invincible.
In the afternoon, heading to the beach after a day of working at a beautiful cafe. I was coming along a road I had previously ridden, when I took a blind left corner and a truck pulled out in front of me after fuelling up. Roads in Indonesia are pretty lawless and truly anything goes here, so placing any fault upon any party is pointless, when I saw the truck it was already too late, added that, alot of the roads are gravelled, sandy or rocky in places... my tyres were not safe and I should have noticed this earlier before as I had a few incidents of loosing grip days prior, this was my warning sign.
I lost control of the front end of the scooter and ended up under the oncoming truck, I wish to express this to inform people in Indonesia to be careful going forward if you're seeing this, as roads are unpredictable and dangerous, bikes/scooters may not be upto specification/road safety requirements (check before renting/purchase) and unfortunately due to laws here, it is not mandatory for privately owned vehicles to have motor insurance, liability can be extremely hard to determine and you may even be forced to pay 100% (continued below...)
