Monsoon winds are shifting again.
According to the India Meteorological Department (Sept 24, 2025), the Southwest Monsoon is finally pulling back across India after bringing heavier-than-average rainfall this year. That means the familiar southwest winds, carrying moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, are gradually giving way to a different pattern.

At the same time, in the Southwestern United States, the summer monsoon has already ended. The rains and thunderstorms that brought haboobs, flash floods, and lightning through July and August are now shifting back to a drier, hotter weather pattern.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon has already begun in the Philippines. This seasonal shift means winds are now blowing from the northeast, bringing cooler, drier air compared to the hot, humid southwest monsoon season.
