Hare Today, Goon Tomorrow… but looks like Pop up Shops are here to Stay
The trendiest 5th Avenue shops, abandoned warehouses, street corners, temporary shops and restaurants were once a way for artists to corrupt empty urban spaces. Now, these abandoned places are just as likely to be part of a corporate marketing strategy. An old dark, smelly, 90’s popular watering hole, bodiless not for much lon
ger will soon be taken over by a young event planners 99-day Pop Up Shop ( although this is about 90 days more than your typical Pop Up Shop). In simpler terms, Pop up Shops are all about the, “Get in, Get it done & Get out” business model. A “here-today-and-gone-tomorrow” Marketing Strategy. Temporarily fill thousands of jobs all over the world, fill empty shops, stores, restaurants, cafes, galleries, malls, garages, beaches, virtually any space, just as long as you can draw an impressive crowd. In 2008, a London club (part restaurant and part bar) backed by a higher end fashion label, Prada was very successful. A branch of “Central Perk”, the globally known coffee house where our “Friends” Ross, Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, Joey and Chandler got together… opened up for a few short days to promote a limited-edition box set of the series. A pop up shop can last anywhere from 1 hour to 4 months, but just like the saying goes, “get it before it’s gone!” That’s the beauty of it all. Making something time-sensitive gives it the illusion of urgency, which makes consumer spending a little more predictable. Think of December 26th (Boxing Day) as one giant Pop Up Shop because you only have 1 day to get these much higher discounts on your favorite brands. Not making that purchase is not even an option for fear that if you don’t buy it, someone else will!! The “Pop Up” phenomena now makes the old saying, “small fish in a big pond” obsolete, making it easier for new companies, products, and shows the chance to thrive, get noticed and if PopUpShopsMyCity has anything to do with it, make these Pop Ups an even bigger success. PopUpShopsMyCity’s vision is to connect people to the Pop up Shops, putting the POP back into Food, Fashion and the Arts!
