We are happy to present in focus , an office from Lithuania:

“Studio “PUPA/Life Over Space” is a team of urbanists and landscape architects based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Our focus lies in landscape architecture, research, and urban planning and design. We explore the forces shaping cities and believe that every space reflects the social, cultural, and economic dynamics of urban life. Our aim is to improve living environments by designing healthy, accessible, and sustainable spaces.”

We are thrilled to feature the article on the worldbuild project and the collective imaginative Visions of Planet City exhibition, curated by Liam Young:

“The city itself is imagined as a rich hybrid co-species environment. We chase the seasons through the height of the city. Vertical orchards weave through the tower's 160 floors. Between them, birds migrate across climate zones, while shepherds herd the harvest bots, and nomadic neighbourhoods follow the patterns of the fruit blooms"

A modern transformation has breathed new life into one of Dnipro's oldest public spaces. The reimagined square now features thoughtfully designed pedestrian paths, fresh greenery, and Metalco -crafted urban furniture. Painted steel benches line the walkways while wooden circular seating creates inviting social spaces throughout the vibrant heart of this Ukrainian metropolis.

Wild Playgrounds:

"The junk playground used scrap materials that kids were encouraged to assemble and tear down as they pleased, promoting a communal, do-it-together play. In following decades, Denmark had over a dozen skrammellegepladsen, and they spread around the world by advocacy for postwar reconstruction by play, promoted by English landscape architect Lady Allen of Hurtwood. She is most famous for her quote “Better a broken bone than a broken spirit” which summarizes in essence what the junk playgrounds were about: freedom and autonomy. Kids play was supervised yet unobstructed and parents weren’t allowed to enter. Kids could burn fire, make castles, demolish them and teach one another."

Many tables claim to be wheelchair accessible but often don’t meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Standards for Accessible Design, lacking in beauty and quality. Landscape Forms’ new Contour table, designed with Ignacio Ciocchini, sets a new standard for true ADA compliance without compromising on aesthetics.

In 1999, when many were occupied with Tamagotchis and the catchy tunes of the Spice Girls, public design introduced their inaugural furniture line, La Strada. La Strada is known for its timeless and simple design, which avoids unnecessary decoration to fit seamlessly into both historical and modern settings. With a variety of slats and side panels, it allows for the customization of stools, chairs, benches, and tables, making it a highly versatile collection.

Robert Schäfer writes a review on Garden and Metaphor, published earlier this year by :

“The book sheds light on the variety of potential metaphors received in relation to the garden. At the same time, the subtitle Essay on the Essence of the Garden suggests finding the inherent core of the garden, i.e. the value of the garden, not its appropriation.”

In 1949, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) held the “Prize Design for Modern Furniture & Lighting,” showcasing top furniture examples and encouraging mass production. Seven decades later, Global Design News and The Chicago Athenaeum revived this event, and our partners Area have won an award for their Michigan chaise longue in the latest edition.

Uspenska Square in Dnipro is one of the oldest squares in the city, which has a population of one million inhabitants. On an area of 1.45 hectares, relevant pedestrian connections were organized, new trees were planted, and new options for leisure and interaction between people and the city were created. The grid of pedestrian connections formed sections of functional zones.

The entire area has been equipped with urban furniture designed by Metalco. Along the pedestrian connections, BAILO benches in painted steel were installed, while ATOLLO circular wooden seats were placed throughout the various functional zones in the square. The more modern SBIN trash bins were distributed across the entire area to encourage their use.
