some love for vanlife 🫶🏽

before Australia we have never done vanlife & we grew to love it dearly. for sure there is up & downs and sometimes we wish we had a bigger van and so on … but in the end we are so glad we tried it we love this way to travel! 🚐

& are so keen to try it in California this week 🫶🏽🥹
who knows maybe we end up doing a lap around the US one day (is that even a thing?😂)

yesterday we visited the Rock 🪨

from military to federal prison for the most notorious criminals of the time to being occupied for protests for indian land.

now its a place filled with history that is well worth a visit when in San Francisco.

we made it to San Francisco 😍

we had an epic first day exploring the city! & can’t wait to see more for the next 10 days 🫶🏽

we saw the different sides of Mission Dolores District with which was super interesting.
Will def try to jump on more free walking tours in the next week!

for lunch we had an epic Burrito 🤤
we will also be back soooo yummy!

we have coffee daily 🥹
but we make it ourselves normally from time to time we love a good bought coffee especially here in Australia. 🫶🏽
but to keep the costs down this doesn’t happen very often.
the coffees featured we didn’t even pay ourselves ✌🏽 that was when Sascha’s parents visited us. ☺️ tastes even better doesn’t it?

anyhow normally we’d try to sit down and have a coffee also to not get a take away cup, because if you think about the amount of trash produced by everyday take aways is insane. also a good way to keep this down is BYO cup love the concept 🫶🏽

who are we?

We are Alena (30) & Sascha (31) from Switzerland traveling the world together since 2021. 🫶🏽🥹

We started off in Mexico, did a fair bit of Southeast Asia & now have been on our lap around Australia for the past 1.5 years.

We are all about slow travel, finding hidden gems, unique places to stay & experiencing the cultures of the countries we visit.

When we first set of on this trip would we have thought we‘d still be successfully traveling 3.5 years later. I don‘t think so!

As we travel the list grows & grows & we are far from finished.

Mt Wellington 🗻

despite the ☁️ & absolute cold wind the views were epic 🥹

& we loved that a few days later there was snow up here unfortunately due to ice we couldn‘t come back🥲 it was such a perfect sunny day ☀️

def put Mt Wellington on your list. So crazy that you can drive all the way to the top 🤯

made it to Tassie & weather is treating us well so far ☀️

we did wake up to -3degrees this morning which was a bit of a thoughie to get up. but the sun does help to warm up during the day 🥹

we certainly are happy we got gloves, beanies & jackets for this trip 🫢 for those still thinking Australia is always hot it isnt 😜

did we end up on Kangaroo Island?

no, unfortunately the weather turned the day we could have gone.
we ended up on this little gem of island on the last sunny day for a bit. ☀️

it was our little taste of what we think Kangaroo Island could have been like. 🥹
we saw dolphins, a seal & some sharks being caught by the youth of Victor Harbour.

and also if you are lucky you come across Little Penguins. Unfortunately there‘s only if even a handful left of them 😢

wait, who this?

exactly one year ago we left Coober Pedy and with that South Australia to get to the Northern Territory. We spent all last year in the remotest states of Australia & we loved it. Being back in South Australia gives us a feeling of having finished the “lap”.

So many adventures we were so scared of seem so easy now & we feel like we’d do it all over again 🫶🏽

This trip has made us grow in so many ways only travel can, jumping into the unknown day after day.

We worked in two places & many events adjusting to the ways of another country.

We camped at the remotest places, no internet for days.

We conquered some of the worst roads.

And so much more. 🫶🏽

Looking at this picture makes us feel like it was yesterday & at the same time a lifetime ago.

We have our visa till November & can’t wait for the adventures in store for us in Australia for the rest of our time here.

And a big shout out to the trusty Delica always getting us safe to where we wanna be 🫶🏽😊

Would you drop everything and travel around Australia in a car for a year? ☺️

while searching for the best shower in Australia we came across the showers in Geraldton 🚿

with Gerlaldton having the first all steel tower lighthouse on mainland Australia and it being the oldest surviving Western Australia lighthouse under Federal control they built all lighthouse themed showers across town 🫶🏽
love it!

which shower can‘t we miss on our lap around Australia? ☺️🥹
