Spent our first day in the showcase at Overland Expo East 2024, and what a day it was! We talked to so many people and met some amazing neighbors. The kids were in their element, saying hi to everyone who stopped by and riding their bikes down the roads. We took some great classes, and the kids even got to learn how to build a fire in one of their own classes. The best part? They all went to sleep without a single fight. It was a great day, and we can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow!

Today we salute you, Mr. Survives-On-Coffee-While-Kids-Destroy-The-House Parent. ☕👑

When life throws endless “MOM! MOM! MOM!” and “DAD! DAD! DAD!” at you before 7 AM, you don’t run for the hills… you run for the coffee maker. 💨

You power through toddler tantrums, throwing food on floor for no reason, and the mysterious disappearance of every single shoe in the house… all thanks to that sweet, caffeinated nectar of the gods. 🙌

So here’s to you, brave soul, turning sleepless nights into days of somewhat productive parenting. Because while you might not always have it all together, your coffee’s got your back.

This morning, driving my kid to school, Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” came on the radio. Instantly, I was transported back 20 years to a bar with my battle buddies after we returned from our deployment to Afghanistan in 2003. I could see us, raising our drinks, shouting out the lyrics as the whole bar joined in.

That moment brought such a powerful feeling of belonging and shared purpose. Sitting next to these guys who I patrolled with in a combat zone, we didn’t need to say much – we all knew how the other felt after that long year away. That song took me back to those nights when camaraderie and connection meant everything. 🇺🇸

🌞🏞️ Hiking 1.5 miles in the summer heat of Georgia with three little adventurers in tow was no small feat, but the reward at the end was worth every step! 🥾

After a tough climb, we reached a breathtaking waterfall with ice-cold water that felt like pure refreshment. 💦 Gus braved the natural slide, but after one chilly run, he decided to join the rest of us on the shore. Finn and Penny needed a little extra help along the way, but the smiles on their faces made it all worthwhile.

Nature's playground never disappoints, and this hike was a perfect reminder of why we do what we do. Whether you're carrying your little ones or cheering them on as they conquer new challenges, the memories made are priceless. 🥰

After a day full of adventures, there's nothing better than gathering around the campfire for a warm, homemade dessert. Our Dutch Oven Cobbler is the perfect way to end the day—simple to make and packed with sweet, comforting flavors. Whether you’re using peaches, apples, or cherries, this cobbler will have everyone asking for seconds! 🍑🍰

Dutch Oven Cobbler

Ingredients:
2 cans of your favorite pie filling (peach, apple, cherry, etc.)
1 box of yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter (cut into thin slices or small cubes)

Instructions:
Prepare the Fire: Get your campfire going and let it burn down until you have a nice bed of hot coals. Place a Dutch oven near the fire to preheat it slightly.

Assemble the Cobbler: Open the cans of pie filling and pour them into the bottom of the Dutch oven, spreading it out evenly. Next, sprinkle the entire box of yellow cake mix over the pie filling, making sure it's spread evenly to cover the fruit completely.

Add Butter: Dot the top of the cake mix with the slices or cubes of butter, spacing them out evenly across the entire surface. The butter will melt as it cooks, giving the cobbler a rich, golden crust.

Cooking: Place the lid on the Dutch oven. Move some of the hot coals to create a small bed, then place the Dutch oven directly on them. Carefully place more hot coals on top of the lid to ensure even cooking from all sides. Let the cobbler cook for about 30-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling up around the edges. Check it occasionally to avoid burning.

Serve: Carefully remove the Dutch oven from the coals and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, scooping the cobbler into bowls. Top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you have it!

🎉 It turns out our middle child, Finn, might be a lefty! 🙌 We first noticed when he kept reaching for marshmallows with his left hand. After watching him try to hold a fishing rod we're pretty sure we’ve got a future southpaw in the family! 🏕️🔥

Now, this means a whole new adventure for us: left-handed scissors, finding the perfect lefty-friendly camping gear, and trying to figure out why he insists on pitching the tent his way! 😅 But honestly, we're thrilled. Finn's always marched to the beat of his own drum, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

So, here’s to embracing the left-hand life and all the new discoveries that come with it.
