I firmly believe that every Cancer patient has the right to know about all alternatives and not just a nuclear medicine treatment plan. I also firmly believe that all oncologists should be certified in a comprehensive course with testing on both Cannabinoid Medicine and the ECS—the endocannabinoid System / its function(s).

Without these requirements put in place or safeguards for patients, the medical industry is failing to give patients the options for treatment that should be considered. Because of the lack of education in Cannabinoid Medicine and the ECS, clinicians cannot collaborate with patients, causing a huge divide.

Due to this, we have patients who are self-medicating with cannabinoids that could either complement a therapy that's being used for cancer or actually hinder it by metabolizing it too quickly or even sending it back to the liver depending on which cannabinoids are used and which pharmaceuticals are mixed.

At the same time, we have oncologists advising patients against the use of cannabinoids during periods they are not receiving treatments and could be using them as an adjunctive treatment for cancers. That's a lose-lose situation that we must correct.

The failure of the healthcare industry should not equate to the necessity of the private sector researching and gaining medical knowledge; rather, it should be corrected so medicine as a whole can be more effective.

Unlike cannabinoids, which primarily bind to the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), terpenes influence a broader range of receptors across the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems.

Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) Channels:
TRP channels, such as TRPV1, mediate sensory processes like pain and temperature. Terpenes like menthol and eucalyptol activate TRP channels, helping desensitize pain pathways and reduce inflammation.

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) Receptors:
Linalool and limonene, common in cannabis, interact with GABA-A receptors, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission. This interaction fosters calming, anxiolytic, and sleep-promoting effects.

Serotonin (5-HT) Receptors:
Terpenes such as beta-pinene modulate serotonin pathways, particularly 5-HT1A receptors, which regulate mood and anxiety. This is particularly relevant for patients seeking relief from stress-related conditions.

Dopamine and Adrenergic Receptors:
Myrcene and beta-caryophyllene can modulate dopamine and adrenergic pathways, affecting focus, motivation, and cardiovascular functions. These effects are especially relevant in mental health and attention-based therapies.

PPAR Receptors:
Beta-caryophyllene activates PPAR-gamma receptors, influencing inflammation and metabolic processes. This mechanism supports its potential neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory benefits.

The Entourage Effect: Terpenes and Cannabinoids
Terpenes work synergistically with cannabinoids like THC and CBD to amplify their therapeutic properties, a phenomenon known as the entourage effect. For instance, myrcene enhances cannabinoid absorption, while beta-caryophyllene complements the anti-inflammatory effects of CBG by activating CB2 receptors.
