Please be safe, Boulder. Please no backyard campfires, no cigarette butts, please don't mow or drive during the day as possible. It's hot. It's dry. We don't want to lose 1,000 homes as we did in the middle of winter a few years back.

If you answer yes to these three questions, you are in a sturdy relationship that may stand the test of time:
Partners who can’t or don’t know how to control their heightened emotions are either in unhappy relationships or jump from one relationship to another without realizing that their

20 feet west, a child is playing in the water. 40 feet east, a young man is fishing. 10 feet away, a couple is picnicking. Etc. etc. etc. etc.
Many communities have many public bathrooms. Paris has 100s of them, all over. We can blame the homeless, but I'd rather fix the system than hate the player. Sadly solutions and actually doing the work of helping is not what local politics are about... they're mostly about teams, performative ideologies, and blame.
“The idea behind the choosing of the tree is a suggestion that men would get more compassion from a tree. That sharing feelings with women can lead to men struggling with rejection, embarrassment, or discouragement. That it’s difficult to be vulnerable. That a tree would not answer back. A tree would be peaceful and comforting.”
We are all responsible for our own health and well-being. And again, we see the contradiction that men are not emotional and don't need to talk about their feelings like women; yet, they are killing themselves and they are killing women, all because they are emotional and they do need to talk about....
Boulder: Driest May in 50 years.
Much-needed rain!
Hardly any rain, super hot, high winds, backyard fires and folks flicking ci******es out of cars, which also spark, and now fireworks! What could go wrong!?
"fire risk aside they are annoying as hell to dogs and cats, not to mention all the wild animals"
..and toxic to humans and animals, freak out wild animals and birds to point of death, heart attacks, erratic behavior...
Same goes for today! Super inspiring, shared up on my social repeatedly...*and* confounding how normalized single-use waste is.
What's the difference?
While many products at, say, McGuckin or N**e Foods are affordable and already here (better than overnight shipping, which is tough on our planet and workers both)...why is it worth shopping local vs. Amazon?
Because you're paying for those green-vested experts to help advise; to create community that adds value to where we live. Those experts have what we used to pride ourselves on—middle income stable jobs with health care, they often work there for life, and more local taxes (roads, education, parks) and donations flow from local shops and shopping. We can try out purchases in person, and get personally-tailored advice before selecting.
And on the other side Amazon is gutting industries and Bezos can't fit his superyacht under bridges.
Why else?
Who's biking to work tomorrow?
Attended MacBeth yesterday with Kelsey, as part of the long-running and nationally-prominent Colorado Shakespeare Festival. It took place inside the lovely Roe Green Theater--lovely on the outside, at least--on the inside it was thoroughly modern, would have appreciated at least some historical preservation, a sense of beautiful architecture.
I'm concerned about the...dramatic gutting and remaking of the legendary, simple, lovely, treed, starred red rock amphitheater that is the outdoor venue, closed for renovations for two long years. Sometimes old is lovely, and what ain't broken don't need fixing.
The stage and production were wonderful, dramatic, savage, dark, comical at moments yet overwhelmingly heavy as the play doth dictate. While a tragedy doesn't make a typical date, Kelsey and I popped by Cafe Aion before and thoroughly enjoyed the production, the look inside fear around female power, ambition, guilt, the cycle of war and aggression.
Thank you, Colo Shakes!

“When our source of happiness becomes our source of misery, we refuse to accept that something might have changed. That is exactly why we stay in abusive relationships and toxic jobs.”
In Buddhism, upādāna (attachment) means clinging to anything that could make us happy. Even though the pleasure might be short and temporary, we cling even harder in order to feel safe, secure, comfortable, and in charge.

“Genuine kindness doesn’t ever go away. It is constant and unchanging. It is promising. But kindness that’s full of manipulation always leaves us disappointed and hungry for more.”
I've been hurt and disappointed more times than I care to remember because of other people’s manipulative kindness.
“Kahlo overcame many challenges in life, and more importantly, she developed wisdom over time that helped her set a good example.”
Kahlo has taught me over and over again that life’s most difficult obstacles require patience and hope.

Find your Voice with Elephant: It's a writing course for life, not just writing. And writing itself, at its best and truest, isn't about writing—it's about processing, waking up, service to self, others, and our planet.
This September, a leap:
👉Join 9 live meetings. Find your voice, write your stories.
👉Practice maitri (Buddhist path of making friends with all of ourselves)—and learn how writing can be used to open ourselves up, transform—and inspire others.
👉Publish your writing, with the help of mentors, editors, and Waylon H. Lewis.
👉Show up in your work, relationships, and world with authenticity, empathy, and joy.
👉Invite a pal to join for just $1 (accountability buddy), and split the cost if you so choose. It's more fun with a pal, less scary!
Remember: Writing is not (just) for "writers"—it's for you, if you would like to rediscover your voice.
Kelsey and I are traveling for 12 days soon (I might be asking her a particular ?, shhh).
Looking for eco-minded 🏡 housesitter—would you be interested, or would you know anyone? I have a young dog, Winfield, and she has a young cat, Cat Stevens. And I have 50 plants that need watering, regular walks, and singalongs.
I have mannnny pup playdates set up in my backyard, which is fenced, so shouldn't be much "work." Hot tub, treehouse, bikes, near parks, near downtown, zero waste and vegan household. Mid-Sept. Don't want to pay much since it's a sweet situation but stipend okay.

Injured as I am (though not as badly as I thought the first few days, ayay!), I couldn't run the Bolder Boulder, today, and was sad to miss out on the tour of Boulder and community magic. But it was community magic getting to watch the 1,000s of runners and walkers and families and pros, and chat with friends and hang with Winnie as he got used to the crowds and noise.
This is me some years ago, when my ribs weren't ouchy.
“Stillness grounds us into the present moment and takes us away from the illusion of control. It tells us that being ourselves and being present in our own body is safe and where we need to be.”
While most people think slowing down and being still is something to stay away from, the fact is that being still and mindful of our inner world is the most beautiful gift we can give to ourselves and the world.
