Did you know that the first race held on a track in the U.S. took place at Narragansett Park in Cranston, Rhode Island on September 5, 1896? 🏁 It was an iconic event that marked the beginning of a new era in transportation. 🏟️🏁🚘

🥇 The Winner: Andrew L. Riker 🏆Andrew L. Riker of New York made history by winning the race on the Riker Electric Trap No. 1. This cutting-edge vehicle was powered by two electric motors and finished the five-mile distance first in just 15:01. The true pioneer is in the photo looking at the camera. 📷

🚗 A Variety of Power Sources ⚡🔥🌬️The race showcased seven vehicles powered by gasoline, steam, and electricity. It was a display of innovation and diversity in automotive technology.

The event drew a massive crowd of over 50,000 people, showcasing the growing fascination with this exciting new form of transportation. Narragansett Park truly became a hub of excitement and celebration until 1923. In which it was demolished to make a new housing development. A thoroughbreed horse racing venue by the same name operated at nearby Pawtucket from 1934-78. 🐎
