+Mission+
The voices of the mainstream media do not represent the voices of the 99%. The narrative they present about the occupy movement is a deliberate distortion of our coherent community. ‘Official sources’ are routinely allowed to shape and sh
ift the focus of the news, while the voices of those on the ground are stifled and discredited. This reflects an inherent bias toward an established order, one with secure funding and a hierarchy of ‘opinion-makers’. We need a new media, and more than that we need to be more critical of how we consume media. Occupied Stories is a story-sharing platform that recognizes the mainstream media’s claim to fairness and objectivity as both false and unrealistic—no story is objective, but a point of view. The truth behind any story is shared by the many who lived it, not by PR spokespersons or political pundits. Our mission is to encourage critical reflection over blind acceptance and amplify the voices from the front-lines of the occupy movement.
