Want your business to be the top-listed Media Company?
Buzzsaw is an independent periodical published by a group of Ithaca College students. There are six issues printed per year (three per semester), as well as an online edition. Buzzsaw is comprised of six sections: local and global news, pop culture, creative fiction and nonfiction writing, satire and multimedia. The variety of sections allows Buzzsaw to reach a diverse audience and satisfy your interests, as a writer or a reader. Buzzsaw has a distinct style, one that is strictly “Buzzsaw”; a style that pays tribute to the bold and the unapologetic by allowing bold and unapologetic writers to speak their minds, whether it be through creative journalism, commentary, and satire, which works to deconstruct society, pop culture, politics, college life, and dominant Western beliefs. Buzzsaw is beholden to no one but our readers, and we aim to offer content that provokes ideas that would otherwise never be discussed.
Over the years, the magazine’s “alternative” content and appearance has given us the reputation of being the “hipster magazine,” but we feel this definition is putting us in too small of a box. We do cover obscure bands and we do have an edgier tone. However, we are covering these subjects to fill a gap in their coverage by mainstream media -- something we think is not only cool, but vital to our campus community. This label does not accurately describe what Buzzsaw is and what it wants to become: a publication that supports the pursuit of self-expression.
We’ve decided it’s time for Buzzsaw to reassert its identity. We want Buzzsaw to be recognized for the collection of creative, independent voices that it was originally founded on. We want our peers to know that Buzzsaw is here and willing to go in-depth on hard hitting issues, as well as to give our peers a space to manifest their thoughts and ideas. We want the students of Ithaca College to know that at Buzzsaw, there is a place for everyone.
Sincerely,
