Fleetwood locals fight to save Tram Sunday

Last week the organisers of Fleetwood Festival of Transport - Tram Sunday 2024 cancelled the historic event, due to lack of volunteers and operational constraints.

Residents and local business owners soon voiced their discontent online, stating they hadn't seen any advertising for volunteers prior to the event being cancelled.

In a bid to save the Town's only chance to bring in extra tourism, a number of residents are in discussion with the existing Tram Sunday committee, exploring all possibilities of holding the annual event.

It is reported that one of the main reasons for the event being cancelled is due to the application of a road closure being submitted late.

Eager to work around this residents have suggested the idea that local MP's get involved to try and fast track the application.

Other suggestions such as the event being held at multiple venues throughout the town such as Marine Hall, The Mount, The Sunken Car Park and opposite the North Euston Hotel have also been raised. As this would work around the road closure situation.

Online the vast majority of locals and business owners have all offered to volunteer at the event or donate to a Just Giving site to help with additional funds to hold the event.

As it stands Fleetwood's historic Tram Sunday is still cancelled however with locals willing to fight for the event, there could be further developments surrounding this.

Fleetwood mum offers meals to those in need.

A single mum based in Fleetwood provides meals to local residents in need.

Throughout the past two weeks Fleetwood mum and cooking enthusiast Nicki Morrison has prepared meals for local residents in need. Her fantastic act of generosity has received nothing but praise from locals on the Facebook group 'Fleetwood Nosey Bazzers'

The mum of one is currently on a mission to help combat people going hungry in Fleetwood. Last week Nicki produced over 20+ sandwiches in her spare time and offered them to locals along with cans of pop.

The week prior Nicki made a fresh batch of chicken and ham carbonara which she also offered to members of the local community.

Earlier today we spoke to Nicki about her idea and how locals can get in contact about a free meal.

"I've always liked to help people and I was used to buying food for locals in Blackpool. I just decided one day that I'd do it from home but in a larger scale. I do this off my own back and out of my own pocket, the only gain I get from this is knowing I have managed to help someone who may have gone with out eating or having to resolve into stealing for a meal."

Nicki added

"I dont have a set time of doing this but I will for as long as I'm able to. Residents of our community can keep an eye out on the page Fleetwood Nosey Bazzers, as I will post the weeks I can do the meals on there."

We are pleased to announce that work on High Street has been completed and the road is now open.

The road was previously closed to allow for the Talbot Gateway regeneration including the construction of the new underpass, the Holiday Inn hotel and the Marco Pierre White New York Italian restaurant, which are due to open later this year.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and support while we continue to
