Fleetwood locals fight to save Tram Sunday
Last week the organisers of Fleetwood Festival of Transport - Tram Sunday 2024 cancelled the historic event, due to lack of volunteers and operational constraints.
Residents and local business owners soon voiced their discontent online, stating they hadn't seen any advertising for volunteers prior to the event being cancelled.
In a bid to save the Town's only chance to bring in extra tourism, a number of residents are in discussion with the existing Tram Sunday committee, exploring all possibilities of holding the annual event.
It is reported that one of the main reasons for the event being cancelled is due to the application of a road closure being submitted late.
Eager to work around this residents have suggested the idea that local MP's get involved to try and fast track the application.
Other suggestions such as the event being held at multiple venues throughout the town such as Marine Hall, The Mount, The Sunken Car Park and opposite the North Euston Hotel have also been raised. As this would work around the road closure situation.
Online the vast majority of locals and business owners have all offered to volunteer at the event or donate to a Just Giving site to help with additional funds to hold the event.
As it stands Fleetwood's historic Tram Sunday is still cancelled however with locals willing to fight for the event, there could be further developments surrounding this.
