-1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. For trans or gender non-conforming folks, this number jumps to 54% (National Center for Transgender Equality).
-1 in 3 adolescent girls in the U.S. are victims of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
-It takes an average of 7 attempts for a survivor to leave their abuser and stay separated for good. Leaving is the most dangerous time in an abusive relationship.
-Each day in the US, three women are murdered by current or former intimate partner (Bureau of Justice Statistics).
-1 in 5 homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner. Over half of female homicide victims in the U.S. are killed by a current or former male intimate partner (CDC).
-From 2010-2014, 22% of law enforcement officer “line of duty” deaths occurred while responding to a call for service involving a domestic dispute (US Department of Justice).
-In UT from 2009-2016 84 women were murdered by intimate partner. (Utah Department of Health)

Every single person reading this knows someone who was killed by their partner. Let that sink in.

Officials in Enoch, Iron County, say a husband shot and killed seven people before taking his own life inside a home in the rural town just outside of Cedar City.

Julia here…this here is my man Grant who passed in 2019. I never knew him when he was alive. But, last Saturday night I was home alone and bored, so I did what any normal person does: got on namus.gov to see if I could match any unidentified deceased to a missing person. Instead, I ended up browsing the list of Utah’s unclaimed dead. Which, is really sad to know we have. Anyway, Grant stuck out at me and I decided to see if I could find his family. I got on Family Search and Ancestry. I knew it was a long shot because all I had was his name and year of death, not even a DOB, and Grant Snyder isn’t exactly an uncommon name. Regardless, I was able to find his DOB and parents names very quickly, which led me to a marriage license for him in the state of NY. Well, I googled his ex wife and found out she just barely passed. Her obituary had the names of their 2 sons, and it was obvious I had the right people because one son was named after Grant and another after Grant’s dad. One of his son’s is married to a woman with a very unusual name. I found her on Facebook, then her husband and in turn found both of Grant’s sons and his adult grandsons. I notified Namus and the detective in charge of Grant’s case with the SLC PD. The detective returned my call yesterday and he had me tell him the entire story. He was surprised to hear that someone went through the trouble of getting on Namus do any sleuthing. He apparently underestimated arm chair detectives and the amount of snooping we are willing to do to solve a mystery 🤣 My point here is, we can all make a difference, even a small one like this. Obviously, my buddy Grant here wasn’t close to his sons at all, but if this were my dad, I’d at least want to know. So, even if all you have is 15 minutes, get on Namus and look around. You never know if that friend from high school that no one has heard of in 25 years was found dead in another state, and without ID, and is just waiting for you to put a missing piece into place.

We started Zion’s Lost Podcast 3 years ago as a hobby and to expand our passion for true crime, unsolved mysteries and missing persons. It was important to us that we bring awareness to cold cases in Utah. We didn’t have any experience with or knowledge about audio equipment or podcasting, but decided it was worth a shot.

We have been privileged to have incredible experiences and opportunities as our podcast grew. We’ve met and spoke with victims families, participated in searches, organized a sheet drive for r**e victims, have been interviewed by several Utah news stations, and of course, appeared on Dateline.

But after over 150 episodes, we have decided to hang up the headphones. We have both been considering it individually for quite some time, and have mutually decided that it is time to pull the plug. We are pursuing other directions and goals in our personal and professional lives, which is needing our attention and focus. It is bittersweet, but it’s time for us to move on.

We have sincerely appreciated the support we have received from you, our dedicated and loyal listeners. It sounds cliche, but Zion’s Lost wouldn’t have been the success it is, without you. We are so very thankful.

Our last episode will be on August 10th. We will talk about why we came to this decision, our favorite memories and episodes, and cases we wish we could have covered, but weren’t able to do due to privacy, available info, or other reasons.

We hope you will join us one last time.

In 1989, Annette Hill left her home, never to return. A robbery and murder gone wrong led police to a suspect, but he was never charged with any crime. However, that would all change in 2011 when another cold case from 1989 was reopened, and evidence was retested.
