Do you HATE reading stuff online because of all the freaking ads? Me, too. But I put up with them because I know that the people who write the articles and the sites that host the articles deserve to be compensated for their time and effort. After all, they aren't asking you to subscribe, like a newspaper. But wait - newspapers have ads, too.
What if you could read content from a site for a small fee and NEVER have to deal with ads though?
A lot of sites are doing that these days. It gives people the option to read without ads. So, you have a choice. But yet the sites and the writers can be compensated for the work that goes into creating content you want to read.
One of those sites is Medium. I write there. A lot of people write there, so there's almost every type of content you could possibly want to read. Parenting, self-improvement, life, writing, and more. You can read three articles a month for free without signing up. You can read five articles a month for free if you have an account (unpaid). And with a paid membership? You can read all you want.
Of course, for me, the benefit is that I can earn money from people reading my articles. I get paid based on how many people read and how much they read. So, some articles make pennies. On the other end of the scale, I have an article that made $500 in two months. And it continues to make money for me.
IF YOU ARE A READER:
You might ask - why should I pay to read when I can get it for free? The obvious answer is, nothing is free. Even the free stuff (like Facebook, newsfeeds, blogs, etc.) come with the cost of your data and exposure to advertising. Medium's collection of data is minimal and is never sold to third parties.
IF YOU ARE A WRITER (OR WANT TO BE ONE):
Your work belongs to you. It's never sold. It's not reused by Medium. And earnings are sent out within two weeks of when you earned it. There's loads of info on how it all works. You can write about what YOU want to write about. I love the site and will likely always write there in some capacity. And if you want to know more about it and how to get started making money there, you're free to DM me.
Oh, and some might say, "But how much do you really make?" and I'll be honest: it really does vary. I've made more than $100 in a month and I've made less than $100 in a month. A lot of it depends on how much you publish, what topics you publish on, and so on. But I write what is of interest to me at the moment so, I'm happy with whatever I make. The beauty of it is, something I wrote last year is still earning money for me today. It's not exactly passive income, but it is residual. It builds over time.
Anyway, this is a long rambly post and if you got all the way here, props to you. LOL
I'm attaching my link. If you decide to become a paying member I'll earn money from that. It doesn't increase your cost though. And if your intentions are to make money by writing there, just DM me and I'll answer any questions you might have.
