It is a record, or real-time recording of an event that happened in our lives. These events may have very little impact on us when they first happen; but over time they can weigh very heavily on our minds. This is what makes testimony so important. It provides more than relief, it provides HOPE! Hope that things are getting better; hope that we’re not alone in our trouble; and, hope that the rest of our lives will be positive and fulfilling, revealing perfect harmony. REAL! When giving a testimony, two things happen. First, you speak, and the audience listens. This is you being as real as you will ever be, pouring your heart out to people who are honestly concerned with what you’re going through; real people, hearing real words about your real experiences, and the healing that can take place because of it. The second thing that happens is that you speak, and you hear yourself. Not only can you look inside yourself and find things you thought were long hidden, but you can see the light gracing the faces of your listeners as your words fall from your lips with ease. You can see the reality and feeling of your words in their eyes. It doesn’t get more real than that. John 8:14 (MSG) – Jesus replied, “You’re right that you only have my word. But you can depend on it being true. I know where I've come from and where I go next. You don't know where I'm from or where I'm headed. You decide according to what you can see and touch. I don't make judgments like that. But even if I did, my judgment would be true because I wouldn't make it out of the narrowness of my experience but in the largeness of the One who sent me, the Father.
