His 2004 album, “War, Volume 1,” tells the story of the hardships Mississippi musicians face but never let shake their spirituality. P-Boy Stone appeared in a couple of movies in the past few years, and is actively seeking other opportunites to peform on stage both as a rapper and actor. But P-Boy Stone’s ultimate goal is to continue honoring his passion for music while working to bring Mississippi to the forefront as he creates a better world for his son and two daughters. P-Boy Stone was introduced to L.A. Dave, CEO of Cypher Moon Multimedia Group, in 2004 by the legendary journalist and analyst Charlie Braxton of Jackson. Project 9 will mark the third project P-Boy Stone has been a part of for the Cypher Moon Network. Cypher Moon, meaning "complete wisdom," was created by L.A. Dave in 2003 as an outlet for independent music and tv producers to reach the global market in the highest quality format. Today, anchored by its main production arm -- Cypher Moon Multimedia Group LLC, a multimedia production company -- the Network responds to fans demands to bring unity back to hip-hop by releasing something lovers of The Arts worldwide can experience with Project 9. CMMG created Project 9 as a 4-phase project that will be comprised of a CD, documentary, book and reality television show. The Grit of Project 9
Father preaches ugly truth about street life to youth through rap music
By Mary M. Jefferson, Special Contributor

He’s said to bring an element that is rarely experienced today in hip-hop. A Waynesboro native and lifelong Mississippian, 35-year-old Jason “P-Boy Stone” Norsworthy is also credited with having influenced rappers throughout the state for years with his superb performances and active community/political involvement. But he is shy to talk about himself, though he’s worked with popular artists including David Banner and is reputed to give audiences “classic” tracks that offer atomic beats, fire delivery, and truthful messages. Among the things his fans enjoy most is when not rehearsing or recording, P-Boy Stone is often performing or volunteering his time mentoring young people through his non-profit organization, God Livez FoReal. The “Gritty Preacher” also operates GLF Entertainment, and releases music dealing with subjects including God, love, street life, and improvement as part of his street ministry.
“My music is a reflection of the real Mississippi,” P-Boy Stone said recently. “A lot of people have had a chance to get big a break and show the world parts of Mississippi. But, I have a story that I think needs to be told about Mississippi too. And since ’99, I’ve been wanting to push and try to form a career out of this.”
His ultimate goal is to continue following his passion for music while working to bring Mississippi to the forefront as he creates a better world for his son and two daughters. This is why he worked diligently to earn an associate’s degree from the University of Phoenix and has been completing and promoting his music projects since 1999. The Gritty Preacher had completed hip-hop/rap projects for labels including Aurora Entertainment in Laurel and Cypher Moon in Morton prior to his entertainment company releasing its first two mixed discs in 2011 and 2012. With the assistance of a manager, his first album, “Mouth of the South,” was released in 2000 on cassette. His 2004 album, “War, Volume 1,” tells the story of the hardships Mississippi musicians face but don’t allow to eliminate their faith.
“P-Boy Stone is probably one of the most under-rated artists to come out of Mississippi,” said Charlie Braxton, renowned journalist and hip-hop analyst, and author of the upcoming book Music & Politics. “His first album is a classic in Mississippi, a record that anybody who wants to have an understanding of hip-hop in Mississippi must listen to P-Boy. What P-Boy brings to the national dialogue is his life experience. He can tell people, ‘I’ve been a victim of this, I’ve been on the streets, I’ve sold drugs, I’ve been incarcerated, and I can tell you this is not a good life.’ Unless somebody is there to tell the young ones, ‘Look this is what prison is really like,’ prisons will keep being filled with young men and women every day. What we need now is honesty in hip-hop and P-Boy brings that. He raps about it from the standpoint of, ‘This could happen to you. The system is trying to hold you back, and as a people, you should be better and stronger than that.’
“I’ve seen P-Boy come out and mentor young people. I’ve seen P-Boy talk to gang members about peace,” Braxton, who has been listening to hip-hop since 1979. “He used to burn the rebel flag at his shows and almost got arrested at a show in Gulfport when we were trying to get rid of the rebel flag. A lot of rappers talk about violence or s*x, but that’s not where P-Boy is coming from. His shows give something you don’t see a bunch in modern hip-hop, an energized show that leaves you enlightened and excited. There’s always a method to his madness.”
P-Boy Stone has also amassed a bit of acting experience in his spare time. The Gritty Preacher appeared in a couple of movies in the past few years, and is actively seeking other opportunites to peform on stage both as a rapper and actor. He can be seen on the big screen in March 2013 in “A Family on Edge” by Sensational Film, and will be one of the featured artists in the most enterprising movement in hip-hop, Project 9 - The Rebirth of the Cypher Moon. Dave, CEO of Cypher Moon Network, in 2004 by Braxton, and have since completed two projects with Cypher Moon prior to Project 9 borne in 2012. Dave in 2003 as an outlet for independent music and television producers to reach the global market in a highest-quality format. Today, anchored by its main production arm -- Cypher Moon Multimedia Group LLC, a multimedia production company -- the Network responds to fans demands to bring unity back to hip-hop by bringing together atists from around the nation and releasing something lovers of The Arts worldwide can experience with Project 9. CMMG will deliver Project 9 as a 4-phase project that will be comprised of a CD, documentary, book and reality television show.
“One thing I know about Dave is he’s not going to do anything haphazardly,” said Braxton, who now works primarily as a political analyst. “He’s done hip-hop before, and Watermelanin was a conscientious project that I liked a lot. Imagine Dead Prez before Dead Prez became known. Dave’s always done projects like that - quality projects well produced, and mixed and mastered properly. I can’t wait to hear [Project 9] and see what he’s doing.”
