With my father being with me full time now, I have a new found understanding & appreciation for the god-fathers of music. My father will be 101 on Oct 13th, same day Sammy Hagar celebrates his. So the genres I play for him are from his era and even some current. ALEXA will play him Mills Brothers, Nat King Cole, Count Basie, Burt Bacharach, Sinatra, Bennett and it goes on!
It’s very cool to see artists like Amy Winehouse, Michael Buble’, Adel and other great musicians carrying on traditions with the new technology, and my father loves it! But this means I'm also listening, and finding myself studying the underlying roots of how music has evolved to what it is today. I have to say, all musicians, whether they know it or not, grab some of the foundational base that will somehow be an influence in today’s writing arrangements, regardless of genre!
So I’ve learned a bit from having my father living with me. The stories of him being a war hero and prisoner of war for 3 years. Him being a numerologist and top aeronautic engineer, also a problem solver, how he came from hardship to being extremely successful finishing his amazing career working contracts for NASA. I’m proud of this guy!! He raised his family right … I’m living proof cuz I was the guy your mother warned you about when I was a rebel back in my day HA!! But he stuck with me, and I cleaned up well and I’m a pretty happy guy these day!
Anyway, I don’t mean to ramble, I just felt the need to say a few things about my father that I’ll never forget. Cherish your family if they are still alive my friends! Don’t let arguments and disagreements get in the way. Wash it under the bridge and live life to the fullest for right now. I have to practice what I preach here myself, trust me.
Have a super awesome weekend!!
