A seventh-grader sits quietly in the back of a classroom, while his classmates laugh at the health and science teacher awkwardly stumbles through a ge***al diagram. The teacher tries to calm the class. A male voice makes an abrupt and peculiar announcement over the intercom, "All faculty please report to the auditorium before block 3." The bell rings and the seventh-grader quietly files out of the class, with his chortling classmates.

Block 3: The teacher announces the news of a worldwide pandemic and that all students will have to be remotely educated for the rest of the year. The seriousness of the news only affects the adults. The bell rings and the teacher is the first to leave the classroom.

The bus stops in front of the seventh grader's house. From the outside, he can hear his parents fighting. The threat of a world-ending pandemic is nothing compared to his father.

The "HORROR WITHIN A HORROR" storyline is probably a perfect theme for this time in our lives. The idea that there is no place safe is extremely frightening. One of my favorite story concepts.

Blue skies. Birds chirping. Humanity has slowed to a peaceful lull. Our lead stares out the window at the beautiful stillness. She passes the bathroom on the way to the kitchen. Rolls of toilet paper stacked in the corner. She pulls out the evening's meal from a fully stocked freezer. She turns on the radio and finds a sunny spot in the living room for yoga. Namaste. The soft classical breaks for another quarantine update. A warm pink hue fills the room as she sits comfortably on the couch, with her prepared meal and the remote. Pink dims to purple. Soft light flickers off her face as she cozies up to a familiar John Hughes movie. A sudden, sharp, knock at the door...

Not a revolutionary concept, but I wonder how many new horror movies will start off this way, in the near future?

Timmy was a young playful boy. His parents never made time for him, always missing his games and accomplishments. His complaints annoyed his parents and soon minor lapses in scheduling turned into outright neglect. He attempted su***de. Under pressure from doctors, his parents reluctantly took Timmy to the carnival to cheer him up. It didn’t take long for his parents to wonder off, losing Timmy in the crowd. Something caught Timmy’s eye and he was drawn into a funny looking tent, at the far edge of the carnival. It is assumption from this point, but it is believed that he was stolen and abused by the carnies and turned into the attention seeking clown known as Tick Tock.

WhoA!! Excuse the dust coming off this post. Our good friend Jay from SNOB FF is starting this new thing... It's like a live interview of filmmakers. It's held at Area 23 (a draft house in Concord NH). He has asked me to be a guest on his show March 26, a Sunday night. I'd show some old shorts and talk about whatever. He has asked if anyone who has worked with me wants to go and be apart of it. You could talk about what you're doing now. He said there was 20 to 30 people there last time, which is a good turnout for a film thing. Please, feel free to join me and make the show interesting :)

When submitting to a film festival, it is customary to include a cover letter with your submission. Most submitters generate a generic cover letter for the ease of submitting to multiple festival. It's is important to make sure you either make the letter totally generic and not mention any festival by name -OR- proofread your letter. Submitting to one festival with another festivals name is a sure way to make it to the bottom of the pile of submissions. Also, submitting on DVD is not a thing anymore. In my opinion, Film Freeway is the best option for submitting. With Out A Box has its benefits but is huge and clunky and takes forever. Just some friendly advice during this festival season.

As some of you may know, I was in the hospital a few months ago. It was pretty serious, but I'm doing better now. Doc says it may take several months to recoup and you know what that means? Plenty of time to write and epic Wicked Sick Film.

Today I've decided to take a page from my friend Mark Battle at Sweven Films and create a NON-48 short. Something I can have total control over and build the absolute best WSF I can.

The story I'm working now is a viking tale. Why? Because Vikings. And It would be easy to shoot in NH. We have lots of woods.

This will be written and shot in the style that WSF has built since 2010. It will have comedy, drama, epic fights scenes, special effects, and with any luck, a really cool storyline. I'm also shooting for a strong female lead viking. Shooting for a 20 page script.

My timeline: finish writing by June 30 (or sooner). Put together a production team/ fund raise and go into preproduction in July. Finish by the end of August. It's ambitious, but you gotta have goals.

If anyone is interested in helping me produce this project, please let me know.

While I may be out sick, my students are still kicking butt. This is a video featured in HMMAGAZINE.COM. It was shot and edited by Justin Mills, a senior this year. The band, Ana Sapphira, also features Jordan Meher [guitar] another former student. Jordan did the color work for this video. Big Doug [drums] also popped in for a semester before realizing smashing things and making a lot of noise. Great band. Great people.
