A Sunday on my Narrowboat home I am very lucky that my wife does so much for me so when she wakes up and before she's even opened her eyes asks if I'd make a Sunday roast, the answer was always going to be yes Cooking in a small space has its challenges but it was an afternoon well spent; cooking is like meditation for me and paired with a glass of red made it a wonderful Sunday evening #narrowboat #boatlife #cozy #sundayfunday #cooking #cheflife #sundayroast
Humans Of The Waterways Welcome to my series where I take you inside the life of people that have chosen to live full time on their boat. Episode 7: @theboatfitco This is my first time featuring a Widebeam on this series as I really want to show all the kinds of boats that are on the waterways. I had never been inside a Widebeam that someone was actually living on before and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't envious of how much space their was! Despite how luxurious Calums boat is, the most impressive part is that he is responsible for completely fitting out the entire interior using his own design & carpentry skills that are all self taught! I'm always in awe when someone turns their hobby into a career and after the successful renovation of his own home, Calum set up his business the Boat Fit Co where him and his team create and fit out beautiful bespoke interiors on a range of boats and renovation projects. It was a pleasure to meet such down to earth, hardworking and talented people and they've invited me back to see the spa boat when it's finished - who wants to see a tour of that one? #narrowboat #boatlife #diy #carpentry #hometour #homerenovation #human
Let's replace the sink in our Narrowboat home We have had a leaky tap for a while so it was finally time to get it sorted. As always with most DIY projects there are obstacles along the way, but we hope you enjoy watching the process #diy #diyhome #narrowboat #boatlife #homerenovation #boat #kitchendesign
3 lessons I learnt from losing my father as a teenager I lost my dad when when I was 17 and despite being an extremely turbulent and traumatic experience, I have the belief system that we can learn something from all of the experiences we have in life. I've been reflecting a lot about this recently and wanted to share some insights of things I think I learnt through grieving my dad 1. Grieving isn't something you can achieve. We use it as a verb as if it's something that will finish doing, however you will always have that grief within you, but the way it shows up and the way you feel about it will change over time 2. Ask more questions I try not to live with regrets but there are some questions I would of loved to ask my Dad before he died so I could understand him better, but rather than dwell, I've made it a goal to ask close people around me lots of questions. 3. It's okay to see the positives It feels strange to say that in some way I am grateful for the experience of losing my dad, however I am truly grateful for all the lessons it taught me, the way it build my resilience and the strength it gave me to carry on and pursue certain goals in my life Thank you for reading this #grief #griefjourney #lifelessons #narrowboat #gratitude #salad
Come & look inside Beatrice AD | I love looking inside other boats so it's always a pleasure to visit @lakelandleisuremarinas to see what boats they have in stock! Beatrice is currently out the water being blacked ready to be transported to the NEC in Birmingham for @boatlifeevents in mid February. When a boat is blacked it's essential to tape everything up as during the grit blasting process the excess can literally go everywhere. So you have to use a little bit of imagination for the decor inside or come down to Boat Life to see her fully decorated! (She was also built in 2023 - my mistake) I will also be giving a talk on the Friday around 10:00 and would love to see some of you there * my first go at a presenter style video also so let me know what you think. * @poppythepartyplanner #narrowboat #boatlife #boats #smallspaces #hometour #offgrid #presenter #tour
Welcome to a day in the life of a Narrowboat dink dog Shanti was getting a bit annoyed that he hasn't been featuring in our content recently so we agreed to make a video completely through his lens. Some call him spoilt, some call him lucky - but he is definitely winning at life! #boatlife #doglife #dogoftheday #narrowboat #outdoorlife #outdoorliving #dink
Take a look inside this Widebeam Boat I love showing all types of boats that live on the waterways and although I love the charm and rustic feel of my Narrowboat built in the early 90's, I also appreciate there are other option for people that want to live on the water in more luxury. My good friends at @lakelandleisuremarinas always let me come down for a nosey around some of their stock boats and this one caught my eyes so I thought I'd do another little tour (I also wanted to try out my new microphones and have another go at a presenting style video) @poppythepartyplanner #boat #luxuryhomes #widebeam #hometour #interior #houseboat #boatlife #walkthrough
Humans Of The Waterways Welcome to my series where I take you inside the lives of people that have chosen to live full time on their boat. Episode 9: @voidplugs Violet lives on the smallest boat I've had on the series, a 24ft river cruiser that she continuously cruises around the London waterways. I was intrigued to see how the space was used inside and I quickly discovered she had everything that she needs! Violet lost her mother 3 years ago and was looking for a change of pace in life to improve her mental health and focus on her art. She speaks of her desire to be closer to nature but not wanting to leave London and living on a boat offered just that. Violet is a self taught tattoo artist with Nigerian and haitian heritage which inspires her spiritually to create the type of art she does. Her mother believed in finding your true calling in life and I am inspired by Violets ability to use this adversity to reshape her beliefs around what's truly important, strip back her possessions, and start living in line with her purpose. #boat #boatlife #nigerian #tattooartist #mentalhealthawareness #naturelovers #grief #narrowboat #river
How did we end up living full time on a Narrowboat? Did you know that we once set ourselves the challenge to hitchhike from London - India... Lauren & I met when we were 19 years old studying at university and bonded over our thirst for adventure. During our studies we started saving money from our part time jobs as we knew one day we wanted to travel. We had the idea to fly to Australia or South East Asia but once we started looking at a map we realised how many places we would miss by taking a long flight. We admired a couple on YouTube who used hitchhiking to get around and fell in love with the idea of surrendering to complete strangers as some kind of social experiment to prove that most people in this world are good people (despite what the media portrays) We ended up hitchhiking all the way to the border of Iran but due to visa issues had to finish our journey by plane to India. We didn't see it as a failure as after 4 years on the road we had learnt so much more than we ever imagined and the 'goal' became somewhat insignificant. The trip truly shaped us as people and we feel we took parts of every person we met and created the lifestyle that suited us. Living on a boat now gives us our perfect blend of stability and adventure all wrapped into one. #narrowboat #boatlife #travel #worldtraveler #hitchhiking #culturetrip #freespirit #freedom #lifestyleblogger
How often do we move our boat? One of the main questions I'm asked is how often, how far, and where do we move the boat? Being self employed we have the flexibility to travel continuously with no specific destination, it has been great to explore hidden corners of my own country that I never knew existed This video gives a few more details on how it works, and if you have any other boat questions please feel free to ask☺️
Did you know there are over 2000 miles of liveable canals a cross the UK? The canal network in the UK was built in the 1700s as a way to transport materials around the country. They became redundant for that use once we built the railway, but it does mean the network goes to most major cities around the country. This is great for Narrowboat liveaboards as it means we have such a vast amount of the country we can travel across on our floating homes. I have explored countless unknown towns, villages & hidden nature spots that I never would of known existed if it wasn't for living on the boat, and there is still so much more to discover #narrowboat #explore #traveler #boatlife #slowliving #slowlifestyle
