In The Big Inning

This started on a small stage... now I perform for handfuls of people up to 80,000+.

Follow me and I’ll keep it short.

What began as a sports fan with a writing problem in 1993, combined with a passion for music - quickly lent itself to radio. A few odd jobs in between newspaper and radio gigs, I was slinging drinks in clubs - a sort of live performance. Once I cracked into the Cleveland radio market in the early 2,000’s the fun really started.

MOBILE DJ - Yeah, they are a dime a dozen. But I had a great tutor in “Billy J” and pretty soon I was making memories with couples, families and companies across Northeast Ohio. Many of them are probably scrolling thru wedding photos almost 20 years later asking, “Who the hell is that guy? Was that the valet? No, I think he came with Tina from accounting.”

Fast-forward a few years, out of radio (never laugh at someone who’s pi**ed at you until they leave the room) and into hospitality management - I still craved performing.

I’d done some minor league baseball announcing with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers and had it big for a girl I’d already made sick of me. Her latest fad was running, so I volunteered to hand out food at Columbus Marathon in 2009. (Never told her why.)

Lo-and-behold, some friends I had made thru the marathon by chance thought I could do more. I spent two years trying some operational/organizational volunteering and loved every second of it. I soaked up as many details of the event from Start-to-Finish (pardon the pun) as I could.

By the third year, they saw I had a penchant for conveying information, handed me a microphone and said, “Here, talk into this.” Next thing I know, I’ve got fireworks and two short people (who became wonderful friends) hosting two major Ohio marathons with me and a handful of other gigs on my own. (Sorry, Amy and Karl - but I’m not tall.)

Advertising has never been my strong suit, so every event I do was from word of mouth or someone picked me up first-hand. I try to be the voice of each event - speaking to you. And focus on the people I am representing - that’s all of you who participate. Even 99.9% of the staff started that way, as participants, somewhere along the line or still do.

Okay, so I’ve only run one race - but I run my mind and hope my mouth can keep up. Right now, I know what you’re thinking... he said he was going to keep this short. And I did... (Hey man, eighth paragraph.)

Now I’m in Lorain County, Ohio and dabbled in some local radio after a decade off the air. My calendar of special events continues to grow as I also try and watch the lives of friends and family do the same.
