Live Premier Date: 9 Jan 8pm CAT. In 2015, the brutal and highly publicized murder of Gabriela Kabrins Alban shocked both South Africa and the international community. Gabriela, a successful marketing executive from California, was found dead in a Cape Town hotel room under circumstances that were as bizarre as they were horrific. Her boyfriend, Diego Novella, a wealthy Guatemalan national with a history of drug use, was later convicted of her murder.

This week on Profiler Africa, forensic psychologist Gerard Labuschagne discusses the complexities of the case, exploring the toxic dynamics of Gabriela and Diego’s relationship and the psychological factors at play in the events leading up to her death.

PROFILING AFRICA’S KILLERS

Profiler is a weekly discussion between: former Head of Forensic Psychology at the South African Police Service, Gerard Labuschagne, who worked on over 300 serial murder and r**e cases in his career; journalist Paul Llewellyn; and guests. We explore how South Africa’s forensic investigation unit, has tracked and captured some of our most dangerous and sadistic criminals. Discover in detail how a serious violent crime is investigated; learn about the psychology that drives people to evil deeds; and walk in the footsteps of the killers, as we tell their stories.
