Big Sky Audio is a purpose built, multi-room recording facility located in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria, Australia. It was designed and built by Neil Gray, who with over 25 yrs of local and international music engineering and production experience, set out to build his dream studio. The result is this beautiful sounding, functional and versatile, hand and heart built, solar powered place to create.
The centrepiece of the studio is a 38 Channel MCI 500B inline recording console, which was manufactured in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, USA, in 1978 and is the same model used to record such classic albums as Back in Black, Hotel California, Reggatta De Blanc, CSN, British Steel, Dare, Heaven and Hell, Nightclubbing and many more.
The interface between the transformer loaded console and the plethora of classic analog outboard audio processors and the DAW, loaded with plugins from Soundtoys, Waves, Eventide etc. is an Antelope Orion 32 AD/DA giving the engineer an amazing selection of audio processing possibilities. There is even an old school echo chamber in house providing rich ambience not found in any box.
