"Children by the millions sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round"

A bit of New Orleans music history. Getting an opportunity to post about Alexa Chilton, New Orleans AND the Replacements in one post is like hitting a trifecta. Happy Thursday everybody.

Alex Chilton, who Spin magazine said "essentially invented indie and alternative rock," became a beloved, mostly behind-the-scenes presence in New Orleans' music community when he moved to Treme in 1983.

Best known as the singer of the Box Tops' Number One hit "The Letter" in 1967, Chilton went on to cut hugely influential if commercially disappointing records with the group Big Star in the 70s.

He made his way to New Orleans after some time in the New York punk scene, and quickly took the city.

Well today my New Orleans jazz fest started a lil early because I just rehearsed with the rollin stones who asked to have me be apart of the there show Tomoro at the New Orleans jazz festival. !! this is a legendary Rock and Roll band I grew up listening too, and now to be playing on stage with them giving my zydeco feel to there music is just mind blowing and a True blessing !!!!

Hard work pays off !!

Jazzfest is a joyous time, whether you are there in person of Festing-in-place. this year's JazzFest is marked by a bit of sadness at the passing of the funk bass player, power house and soul of Dumstaphunk, Nick Daniels III.

This cat can play bass, sing, write and above all else was a joy to be around. RIP bother Daniels and thank you so much for your powerful music. you are a funk legend.

On tonight's Lagniappe Music Hour it is week number two of JazzFest! That's right, I'll be playing songs (mostly live tracks) from some of my favorite performers playing this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

No Rolling Stones, Pitbull, Beach Boys nor any of that other MainStage pop drivel. It will be an hour of the music that makes JazzFest what it is - the premiere music fest in all of the world.

I'm talking Bamboula 2000, Marcia Ball, The Radiators and so much more including British-born but New Orleanian through and through, Mr. Jon Cleary and his Monster Gentlemen.
