Mí Gente! Se viene el segundo año de TAPS (Talleres de Artes Populares). TAPS es el único taller de arte para jovenes
latinos y sus familias subvencionado por el Consejo de Artes de Carolina del Norte que se desarrolla todo el año, de Sept. a Junio. Están invitados a participar a todo tipo de actividades artísticas con énfasis en crear murales comunitarios. Los talleres son gratuitos enseñados por artistas locales.

Reunión de información: Primero de Septiembre, de 3pm-6pm, en el local de SEEDS - 706 Gilbert Stree, Durham, NC.

The Center for the Nuevo South invites to celebrate the work of the Latine youth of the first ever TAPS program in Durham. TAPS (Traditional Arts and Practices for Students) is a program of the NC Arts Council dedicated to the community-centered transmission of traditional arts. Since September 20 youth and their families have been coming every Sunday to SEEDS to share and create public art that speaks to their needs to express their multicultural identities.

Come by SEEDS and share some of the beauty and the joy of these young Duramitas.

After 20 years of living in the United States, an undocumented family decides to return home. Little do they know it will be the most difficult journey of their lives. Set between the backdrop of the rodeo rings of North Carolina and the spellbinding Mexican hometown they long for, Bulls and Saints is a love story of reverse migration, rebellion, and redemption.

After almost seven years of filming, we fixed the last typos and sent Bulls and Saints to POV so they can get it ready for our PBS Nationwide broadcast on September 18th. It's been the voyage of a lifetime and we cannot thank enough everyone who contributed through the years with their support in visible and invisible ways. More to come. But for now, there is nothing but thankfulness that the first major documentary to come out of the Nuevo South will be finally seen by millions across this country. Thank you to my collaborator Peter Eversoll, to the Juarez and Mendoza families, to the Cheran communities in Mexico and North Carolina. We will be tagging many more thanks in the coming weeks, to make sure everyone gets their due!

Después de casi siete años de filmación, arreglamos los últimos errores tipográficos y enviamos a Bulls and Saints a POV para que lo tengan listo para nuestra transmisión de PBS a traves de los USA el 18 de septiembre. We are thrilled to announce that Bulls and Saints, the documentary we have been working on for over seven years will be part of POV's upcoming 36th Season. POV is the longest, and most prestigious running documentary series on PBS! It is inspiring to be featured along so many other great films and we hope that this love story of reverse migration, rebellion and redemption will finally put the Nuevo South and its vibrant Latino communities on the national map. There is so much happening! We can barely keep up with the good news. El Desobediente (The Disobedient One), part 2 of our Bulls and Saints trilogy received a production grant from the AXS Film Fund. This means we can go back to Cheran, finish filming, make offerings to the families, and bring this incredible story to the screen.

After 25 years of community centered documentation, filmmaker Rodrigo Dorfman is finally ready to start giving shape to the shapeless. Imagine making a puzzle without knowing its final shape. The intense messiness of history in the making is what he's looking for and we are very excited by the challenge of putting together the first 30 minutes of The Making of the Nuevo South and screening it as a WIP at this year's Cucalorus Film Festival. This is the Pilot Feature of the first, yes, the first ever TV series to attempt to tell the stories of the Great Latino Migration to the American South. Stay tuned, it's going to be a wild ride.
