Joke Life is an online storybook. When Izzy Martens was 18, she had a life changing revelation. You can read the article here.

She realized that in order to live a good, full life, she would have to give back to the world in some way. She wrote an article about the duality of life, and the crazy way in which we experience it, and she titled it Joke Life. Years later, Izzy began writing on a personal tumblr page, and recevied an overwhelming outpouring of support from friends and family, but mostly from people she didn't e

ven know. People who wrote to her to tell her that they had shared some of the experiences that she had been writing about, and loved knowing that they weren't the only ones out there who had felt those emotions. Izzy realized that writing could, in fact, be a great way to give back to the world, and that writing has an amazing ability to connect people on various different levels.

Izzy began pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English, with a concentration in creative writing at Colorado State University, and graduated in May of 2016 with honors.

Izzy loves to write about love, relationships, loss, uncertainty and clairty, and those random moments in life when everything changes.

Our Story

Joke Life is an online storybook.

These are real stories about the human experience. Stories that are relatable. Stories that are sometimes so honest they can be tough to read. Stories that shine light on not just the good, funny, amazing pieces of life, but also on the hard things – the sad days, the lost loves, or the anxiety and mental challenges we're facing on an ever-growing scale.

These stories are intended to show people that they are not alone. That life is a wild ride – filled with every twist and turn imaginable. But we are all on it. Simply by being born onto this planet, we have a shared experience.

I'm Izzy.

I am no life expert. In fact, most of the time I walk around wondering how everyone seems to have things so dialed-in, when in fact, I suspect everyone feels like they are just barely keeping up with it all. Honestly, we're all doing a pretty good job.

I began writing when I was 19 years old. Now, I look back at some of what I wrote then and I can see the growth that's occurred, the lessons I've already learned. But, with each new lesson comes a hundred more questions.

I'm just figuring it out as I go along.

This is my life, my experiences, my stories – I hope see some of yourself in these stories, too.
