What I wish my passengers knew as a Flight Attendant:
If I could choose one thing for my passengers to know, it would be every take off and landing, every flight, every time I go to work- I am constantly assessing and analyzing the aircraft and the people on it. I use all senses to make sure everything is status quo and everyone is safe. When I go through and collect trash, I am not only taking garbage. I am laying eyes on every single passenger and making sure they are okay. Yes, I am making sure they don’t need any more snacks or offering assistance with wifi but I’m also making sure everyone is physically okay. If they are asleep, I look for chest rise. I am constantly ready for any event I may need to respond to. I am constantly going through evacuation commands and procedures- especially during take off and landing- so I can respond appropriately and immediately in case something happens. As a lead flight attendant, I also am checking in on my crew. It is incredibly important to me for my crew to feel safe and able to share any issues they are having. We need to be a united front and we need to take care of each other. We are all we have in the event of an emergency and having communication, comfortability with each other and teamwork established is of upmost importance in having the most successful outcome in any situation we come across. I go to work able, ready and willing to potentially risk life and limb for my passengers, in a catastrophic event while executing my job duties. That is what we train for, why we constantly train and what we are ready for. The annoying things that seem trivial like your seat backs and tray tables being up and where your luggage is stowed is important because we’re making sure the cabin is ready to be as safe as possible in case something happens. You don’t have to get ready if you stay ready💪🏼
Also- please stop leaving your suitcases, wallets, MacBooks etc… on the plane.
