President Boakai Leaves for Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday

March 6, 2024

Executive Mansion, Monrovia: His Excellency, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., will lead a high-power government delegation on Thursday, March 7, 2024, to Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, for a one-day state visit.

During the visit, President Boakai and his Ivorian counterpart, President Alassane Ouattara, will hold discussions regarding a range of issues centered on Liberia-Cote d'Ivoire relations. The focus will be on matters related to the Liberia-Cote d'Ivoire Framework Agreement, electricity, agriculture, and regional security.

This visit takes place as the West African Subregion is experiencing growing security tension due to terrorist activities and military takeovers.

The President's itinerary in Cote d'Ivoire will cover visits to establishments such as TRANSCO CSLG and the National Center for Agronomical Research, with the aim of fostering knowledge exchange, skill-sharing, and technological cooperation between the two nations.

The Liberian Leader is also set to participate in the Liberia-Cote d'Ivoire Joint Commission Meeting which will bring together several high-ranking officials from both governments to review significant issues, including strengthening the longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation.

The Liberia-Cote d'Ivoire Joint Commission Meeting was initiated in 1972 to promote peace, security, and economic integration, free movement of people, exchange of ideas, goods, and services, and form a common front in alleviating some of the many developmental challenges faced by both countries.

Liberia and Cote d'Ivoire share a long history characterized by cohabitation, intermarriages, trade, cultural exchanges, and deep-rooted friendship before and after that neighboring country’s independence in 1961.

Accompanying the President on his trip are sector-specific government officials, including Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti, Finance and Development Planning Minister Boima S. Kamara, Agriculture Minister J. Alexander Nuetah, Senior Economic Advisor to the President Morley Paul Kamara, and Liberia Electricity Managing Director Monie R. Captan.

Other members of the delegation include Acting Chief of Protocol Antoinette Wolo, Presidential Press Secretary Kula B.N. Fofana, and Executive Assistant to the President Morie Yuade Nemah. In President Boakai's absence, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Honorable Sylvester Grigsby, will chair the Cabinet in close consultation with the Vice President, while the President remains in contact via telephone.

The President has officially informed the Legislature of his departure from the country.

A very sad News From Grand Cape Mount County Liberia 🇱🇷😥😥😥

The situation in Grand Cape Mount County has taken a turn for the worse as the protest against the Bea Mountain Mining Company intensifies. Sadly, the escalation of the situation has resulted in numerous citizens being injured, and reports suggest that five individuals have lost their lives in the village of Kinjor.

The gravity of the situation is further exacerbated by allegations that the ERU and PSU officers, who are tasked with maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the citizens, are making use of live bullets during the clashes with protestors.

It is a distressing turn of events, citizens are calling on the government to act swiftly to de-escalate the situation and find a peaceful resolution to address the concerns of the protestors.

Report reaching USB TV says that Former President George Weah was reported denied from using VIP lounge at RIA on today upon arrival.

Former President and his wife Clar Weah, along with their entourage, were allegedly stopped from using the recently dedicated VIP lounge at the Roberts International Airport.

The lounge was constructed by ex-President Weah and dedicated in December just a few weeks before leaving office.

Meanwhile, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr Presidential Press Secretary without verifying the allegations refused the allegations saying that George Weah was not denied.

We are thankful to the Lord Almighty, the Preserver of our State for His abundant blessings upon us. As the world confronts various crises – wars, pandemics, climate change, and migration – we pray for a better, more peaceful, sustainable, and inclusive global order.
Exactly one week ago, Vice President Jeremiah Koung and I took the oath of office as an array of world leaders, friends, and citizens of Liberia at home and in the Diaspora looked on. That solemn occasion marked yet another historical moment in our democracy as we carried out a transfer of power.

In obedience of my constitutional duty, it is an honor to come before this august Body, the people’s representatives, to report on the national situation as we met it and present our agenda for development in the coming year.

We must acknowledge the harsh realities that face us, as we report that the state of our nation is not what we desire. It is important to note the problems that confront us: Poverty, drug epidemic, corruption, poor infrastructure, and an underperforming economy. The current challenges present us with a unique opportunity to embark on a new journey of hope. This is our commitment to rescue the nation!
