Welcome to Mr Smith Aerial, the page of drone pilot, aerial filmmaker and photographer Andy Smith. I am a CAA approved UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) pilot with A2 CofC and GVC licenses. I am able to operate in both the open and specific commercial drone flying categories. I have spent the last 16 years working as an Art Director and Creative Director in Design and Advertising agencies. You can see

more of my experience in that field over at my other site www.mrsmith-creative.com

I use two great drones. The Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom. A great pair of nimble, flexible, high tech machines. Both shoot film in 4K and stills in RAW. I try to approach every aerial project with an Art Directors' eye. I am interested in making beautiful films, capturing extraordinary points of view and perspectives, and composing stunning images. I enjoy working with directors, or directing myself.

The geese are taking flight, and the leaves are beginning to turn, an early autumn seems likely. Which means loads of lovely tree colours coming soon.

Here is a shot of the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, a perfect place to see the changing foliage in all its glory.

Just a quick one about Fringe the Sea, a few people have told me they have seen a drone flying very low over the crowd and taking off and landing in busy areas, and asked if it was me.

That’s not me, I set up well away from the main area, at the quietest end of the park, and fly round the perimeter at safe distances from people.

Thanks!

I’m chuffed to bits to receive a commendation in this year’s Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. I have three images, taken over the past five years, in the portfolio category.

There is a view of the magnificent Ben Dòrain, a munro in the Highlands, a top down view of Binning Wood in East Linton, and another top down of the big top tent at North Berwick’s Fringe by the Sea festival.

There is some absolutely stunning work in here, and some very worthy winners. Feast your eyeballs: https://slpoty.co.uk

Not far from North Berwick lies the hidden gem of Seacliff Beach, which is ideal if you want to avoid the crowds.
This private beach is largely unspoilt and attracts surfers, dog-walkers and summer picnickers all year round, while car entry to this area is controlled by a coin-operated barrier.

Discover the tiny sandstone harbour thought to be the smallest in the UK, and enjoy the splendid views of Bass Rock and the ruins of Tantallon Castle.

Fatlips Castle is a peel tower in Roxburghshire, in the Scottish Borders. Situated at the top of Minto Crags, above the River Teviot, it was built in the 16th century by the Turnbulls of Barnhills, notorious Border reivers, and owners of nearby Barnhills Tower and farm.

Abbotrule is a hamlet south of the B6357 road, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, on Rule Burn, east of the Rule Water. Places nearby include Bedrule, Hallrule, Spittal-on-Rule, Ruletownhead, Bonchester Bridge, Denholm, Southdean, Hobkirk, Ferniehirst Castle and the Wauchope Forest.

Abbotrule was the property of the church from the 12th-Century to 1560, and thereafter a country estate successively owned by Kerrs, Hendersons and Cunninghams. By 1956, the estate seat, Abbotrule House, had been demolished. Abbotrule was a parish until 1777, when it was divided between two other parishes; the parish church at Abbotrule was deroofed sometime shortly thereafter.
