Meet Fred Smith and Joseph Whitis
Once in a thousand years or so, a legend is born. In 2007 that legend was The Iron Sloth and Jewbacca Show and from that birth came the most profound podcast to ever grace the Interwebs. Forged in the fires of passion for the quest of knowledge, this podcast has entertained thousands of dedicated fans through the ages. Sadly, due to economic woes and the hardship
s of life, the podcast died a slow death. However, like a phoenix from the ashes, a new show arises, The Bodhi Tree Show. The Scope of the The Bodhi Tree Show
The format of the original show, The Iron Sloth and Jewbacca show, was just a place for Joseph and I to shoot the breeze. We talked about anything a geek would be interested in: video games, comic books, Star Wars, movies, etc. Those topics mixed with our superior wit made for some of the most entertaining shows ever heard. Over time, we didn't just want to be another nerdcast. So, we took the Boombox of Life and turned up the volume to 11. We changed the format to one that was supposed to inspire, educate, and entertain, all at the same time. What does that mean? You could exercise your brain and fulfill your daily laughter precription all at once. However, we were never able to release many episodes under the new format. Like the Bodhi Tree that Gautama Buddha sat under while attaining his enlightenment, The Bodhi Tree Show is a place for listeners to gather and expand their minds. Joseph is an expert at alternative lifestyles and spirituality, whilst, I am a master at everything else. What we want to do with the show is to reach out to people and have them realize things that they may have never realized before about life. Ultimately, creating a more knowledgeable and peaceful society. But, we don't do it in a way that is preachy or over zealous. We do it in a way that is fun and hip, because after all, we are hipsters. Not really, but kind of. We also want to create a community of listeners that provide feedback and can engage each other and us in discussion. Inspiration
The inspiration to do this show came to me by listening to the pioneers of podcasting, critically acclaimed filmmaker, Kevin Smith and tech guru, Leo Laporte. Both Kevin and Leo have grown their respective podcasts from single shows to podcasting networks. Kevin with his smodcast.com and Leo with twit.tv. We, too, want to grow our show into a network of different shows that canvass all kinds of topics. We don't have the clout that the aforementioned gentlemen have, but we more than make up for that with our passion and drive to create something that everyone can benefit from. Conclusion
Joseph and I have known each other for almost 10 years. We met in college. As a result, we have developed a chemistry like no other. This chemistry allows us to be entertaining, very naturally. Because of this, everyone wins. We get to do what we love to do and you get to listen to two of the funniest dudes in this part of the universe. Like some of the greatest rulers of past epochs, we cherish and reward loyalty. We love our fans and we want to give back to the world. Our passion comes from the desire to create a better place to live through laughter and knowledge. Help us revive the legend and hold on for the greatest ride of your life.
