June 7, 2024 — Sulu State College Laboratory High School — The SSC gymnasium was filled with excitement and anticipation on Friday afternoon as the Class of 2024 gathered for their long-awaited moving-up ceremony. Proud parents, family members, and friends filled the seats, eager to witness this significant event, a culmination of dedication and passion, and to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates.

The ceremony began at 2:00 p.m. with a warm welcome address from Mr. Alzhaydar R. Abdua, the class salutatorian. He expressed his pride in the achievements of his batchmates and reflected on his personal growth and experiences throughout his years at SSCLHS.

Class valedictorian Mr. Ameer-Khyzer C. Pelayo delivered an inspiring message, reflecting on the challenges he faced along the way. Despite these difficulties, he managed to overcome them and continue his high school journey. He also spoke about the collective experiences of their batch, who missed out on an elementary graduation ceremony due to the pandemic. Amidst all the uncertainties, they found strength and resilience.

The keynote speaker, Engr. Abdul-Rani M. Sahirani, an alumnus of the Laboratory High School and currently the college engineer of Sulu State College, captivated the audience with his speech. He encouraged the students to strive hard to reach their dreams, discover their true potentials, and pursue their passions.

The candidates were presented by SSCLHS Principal Asst. Prof. Warid S. Ibno and accepted by SUC President Prof. Charisma S. Ututalum, CESE. This was followed by the awarding of the top 10 students and words of wisdom delivered by Tuan Abdusabur I. Hashim Jr., who highlighted the importance of faith and humility.

The supportive college president also expressed her appreciation for the students who have shown dedication and commitment to their studies. She emphasized the importance of attitude, stating that regardless of intellect, it’s crucial to always be kind and humble, no matter how far you’ve come in life.

The distribution of certificates was led by Prof. Nelson U. Julhamid, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs, assisted by Asst. Prof. Warid S. Ibno. As the graduates walked across the stage one by one, receiving their diplomas amidst cheers and applause, the significance of their achievement was palpable. The pledge of loyalty was led by Fatima Aleeya A. Akmadi, 3rd honors.

This year’s graduating class includes 150 students. As the Class of 2024 embarks on their new journeys, they carry with them the lessons learned and memories made at Sulu State College Laboratory High School. Congratulations to all the graduates!

Vogue Philippines tells the story of Mindanao in two volumes. The first this April centers on the “Faces of Mindanao,” inspired by an initial casting call held in Davao in January. More than 300 aspiring models from General Santos, Sarangani, Basilan, Maguindanao, Cotabato, Bukidnon, and more were met by the members of the Vogue team.

Vogue heard from Mindanaoans of many indigenous roots: Blaan, Manobo, Tausug, Mandaya, to name a few. This includes cover star Shaira Ventura, whose commitment to the modesty of her religion initially limited her modeling opportunities. Instead, she shines in a cover editorial led by our fashion director Pam Quiñones. “To have Vogue begin its first leg in Mindanao and meet new faces from different backgrounds and hear about their unique stories was heartwarming,” Quiñones, herself hailing from Cotabato, notes. “These are some of the stories, traditions and cultures I grew up with, and it's truly meaningful that they're now represented."

Pelayo, Jul-Ahmad attend International Youth Leadership Training

Ameer-Khyzer C. Pelayo and Mahir I. Jul-Ahmad attended the SYL International Program in Asia (SIPA) last February 20-24, 2024 at Bandar Seri Begawan, Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Both participants to the SIPA Brunei are student leaders.

Pelayo is the President of the Supreme Student Council and the Editor-in-Chief of the Publication of Sulu State College Laboratory High School (SSCLHS).

Jul-Ahmad, on the other hand, is the Business Manager of the Supreme Student Council and the President of Sports Club of the same institution.

SIPA Brunei is one of the programs of SACEDA Youth Lead School founded by Mr. Dave G. Saceda, MIR, Ph.D.

The participants of the training were from the BARMM region.

The training was also enjoined by the Dean of Student Affairs of the College, Mr. Saurajan Darawi and the Central Student Government (CSG) President, Mr. Marwan A. Omar.

Along with other participants, Pelayo and Jul-Ahmad were able to experience and witness the culture, traditions, hospitality and warmth of the country.

They were also given the chance to visit Brunei's neighboring country, Malaysia, where they did quick tour and shopping.

From the participants' interview, they had learned many things not only in terms of being a leader but also as a member of the society.

Hence, may their learnings and experiences help them in carrying out their duties and responsibilities as student-leaders.

With this opportunity given to the student-leaders, the SSCLHS family would like to express their gratitude to Mr. Dave G. Saceda for the invitation, Mr. Saurajan S. Darawi, (who patiently processed their requirements to travel abroad) for being their guardian throughout their travel, their family for their unconditional support and to the College's President, Prof. Charisma S.
