„The Old Lime Tree“ was a part of my repertory in the 1990s and is a arrangement of a Russian song: a man grieves for his lover who because of him is no longer alive. In order to be reunited with her, he plans to take his own life. It is a story that touched me deeply at the time.The Old Lime Tree is now regarded – quite rightly – as one of best-known works from Sergei Rudnev. After almost 30 years you get a new look at this great piece and here is my new video.

Konstantin Vassiliev and I have been close friends for many years. Each of the pieces that he has written for me has involved an exciting process that has almost always begun with a telephone call: “Kostya, do you have time for a new piece?” This was also how the suite „VIAMARIN- Hommage à Roland Dyens“ came to be written.
I invited Roland to my competition and festival in Heinsberg in 2013. Since we were good friends, I told him about the problems that I was having with my left hand and explained that this was why I was no longer performing.“I’ll write a piece for you, for your comeback, but you mustn't give up” he replied.
Unfortunately he left us far too soon and I never received a new piece from him. Instead, Konstantin has written a tribute to him, in which Roland’s spirit is unmistakably present. I am grateful to you, my friend, for this gift.

Liebe Freunde,
leider müssen wir mein Benefizkonzert zum 30-jährigen Bühnenjubiläum voraussichtlich auf Mai 2022 verschieben. Die gekauften Karten behalten selbstverständlich ihre Gültigkeit und wir werden alle über den Ersatztermin rechtzeitig informieren. Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, nach 8 Jahren wieder für Euch zu spielen, aber angesichts der aktuellen Lage ist es die einzig richtige Entscheidung. Bleiben Sie gesund und hoffentlich bis bald!

I was nineteen when I first heard a tape of „À l’aube du dernier jour“ by Francis Kleynjans. I had no idea who was playing or who the composer was or even what the piece was called. I only remember that for days afterwards I couldn’t get the tune out of my head. I wrote to a couple of friends and asked them to help me find the piece. Since I knew nothing about it, I could only describe my feelings on listening to it: “...I think someone is waiting to die and that at the end of the piece he is executed...”
„À l’aube du dernier jour“ won the first prize in the composition competition at the 22. International Guitar Competition organized by Radio France. This was one of the favorite pieces of my youth and now I’m happy to share with you this Video.
