Map Music We put West Coast Electroniculture on the Global Music Map from 1996- 2002, and continue today ~ Robert Shea https://mapmusic2.bandcamp.com

I formed Map Music (initially called Map Records) in Vancouver in 1996 to support and expose the brilliantly talented electronic music artists of Vancouver, who had been forging a uniquely west coast style of electronic music that the world needed to hear. We initially released these full length CD albums (some of which are still available):
Welcome To Lotus Land Compilation
Mere Mortals - Ethnic

Dub Simmphony in Ten Parts
Pilgrims of The Mind - What's Your Shrine? Phil Western - The Escapist
Cooldown - Ether
We are continuing our tradition of exposing the unique sounds of electroniculturalists around the world - the Map Family continues with new music, all available on our Bandcamp page and the usual online stores.

This album Blinking Things is so full of layered treats, it's a collection of electronicollaborating that deserves multiple listens, and some deep dives into it's delightful trippyness. So much so, that I made this video of the opening track "Blanche Nuit" using some classic "video drug" type visuals.
Digital download via Bandcamp, and all the usual outlets.

Today we officially release this collaborative project written and recorded by Dan and Iulia Cristina Handrabur, Mark Hjorthoy, and Don Verbrilli. It's a global collaboration and we are very happy that they chose Map as the way to get it out to the world.

Recorded in Canada and Romania at SubSonic7, Verbrilli Sound, and Outersanctum Studios, it's a sublime expression of lively electronica, on the edges of experimental, beat-hedonistic, and trippy. We hope you enjoy as much as we are.

Greetings Map Friends

I am thrilled to tell you about this. In partnership with Phil’s family, “The Escapist” by Phil Western is back in the Map Catalog, 26 years to the day from its original release. Also kinda cool is the fact that Phil was 26 when he wrote the music of “The Escapist”, his debut solo album and the official beginning to a stellar career that ended tragically with his passing in 2019.

When it was Phil’s time to put together this debut for Map, our fourth full length release, he presented a stunning collection of material. Thankfully CDs could contain well over 70 minutes of music, so I decided it all had to be on his debut. We worked out a very specific track order to get the listener on board immediately and buckled in for a trippy trip through electronics, heavy effects, live drums, bass, guitars, ethnic percussion, treated samples, ethereal vocals, psychedelic textures: all mutated and fused with an emotionally charged cohesion seldom experienced, even to this day.

I had planned to have “The Escapist” remastered for this home-coming, but after a few weeks of deep listening, sonic analyzation, and banter back and forth, we decided it was perfect as it was originally recorded.

To show my appreciation for anyone buying the album in its entirety, especially if you had already gotten the original CD or directly from Phil via his own Bandcamp page, I’m including two bonus tracks, my “Pastoral Psychedelicism Remix” of “California”, and Phil’s “Philthy Head Mix” of “Absolute”, from the “Ether” album released on Map in 1999, remastered by Martin Djdee Granger.

Check it out via the link below. "The Escapist" will probably show up in other online platforms at some point, but for now it’s Bandcamp all the way as they are the most supportive digital outlet for independent music.

28 years ago tonight! To celebrate the Off And Gone "Everest" album being the first (and only) North American artist album released on Harthouse, we had Dan HAN DRABUR and Phil Western play live with Deejays Sven Väth, Goodgroove and a collection of LA's finest, such as Sandra Collins, Freddy Be, Taylor, Christopher Lawrence, Rich Sihilling and others. Six months later Map Music was born!

Greetings Map Friends and Fans

What we have here is a collaborative project written and recorded by Dan and Cristina Handrabur, Mark Hjorthoy, and Don Verbrilli. It's a global collaboration and we are very happy that they chose Map as the way to get it out to the world.

It will be officially released on May 19th, if you are into it you can pre-order now and get two tracks today, with the rest coming in about 7 weeks.

It's a perfect expression of lively electronica, on the edges of experimental, beat-hedonistic, and trippy. We hope you enjoy as much as we are.

A one minute clip of the "Legal Mix" of "Black Coffee Jazz", the original had a sample that the industry bots spotted so I filtered it into finer grounds, thus this epic-ish rendition featuring 303 bassline of Ramon Zenker of Hardfloor and soaring guitars of Mark Hjorthoy.

Matteo Caratozzolo's contribution to the Welcome To Lotus Land compilation was this stomping funky number he did with Erra on vocals (Iulia Cristina Handrabur), that we also released on limited edition black vinyl promo only 12". It was re-discovered 2017 and one of the reason's the Lotus Land compilation got pressed up twice on double vinyl in 2018, and re-released on the "Neptunian Bliss Mixes" EP on Map Music, link in the comments below.

A while back when I was with Harthouse in LA, Dan Handrabur and Phil Western (RIP) sent me a DAT tape of what was to become one of the most stunning albums of the late 90's, the Off And Gone album "Everest". After the closing of Harthouse, the artists got their rights back and "Everest" came out on Map Music, along with a second album of Off And Gone gems "Dali's Pillow Geiger's Toilet", released after Phil Western's passing. Here's a little clip of the title track "Everest", links to the album in the comments below.

Greetings Map Fans and Friends

Behold we have the second of the series of remixes I did of three tracks by 7D6, this was in fact the first remix I finished, pulling from the background into the foreground the spacey drama melded into the electronic vibes.

Play loud for the full dynamics within.

An EP of all remixes (including the recently released "Caterpillar Hazlett-Jazz Mix" and the upcoming remixes of "Home") will become available on one remix EP, with a special deal for those of you buying the singles.

Thanks and enjoy.

hello Map Friends and Fans:

I'm especially pleased to announce this release. It's my remix of "Caterpillar" by Martin Granger aka 7D6 - and I had a wild time producing it.

I was especially inspired by the last part of his original mix, thinking I would do some sort of jazzy remix; once I dove into those stems I found worlds of sounds from which I could create my own version, inspired by the likes of Global Communications and Underworld, among others.

I did three other remixes of two of his other tracks, which will be released as singles/EPs over the coming weeks, ending with an album of these remixes, the originals, and some bonuses.

Lots more to come, and I hope you enjoy this and those that follow.

Link to video for the original mix in the comments below.
Enjoy!

OUT NOW:

Nine stellar dreamlogik tracks recorded over the past few years, released now as a collection. Strictly for friends of riveting electro-electronica and dangerous yet alluring ambient.

Written and produced by Dan HAN DRABUR (Mere Mortals, Outersanctum, W**d, Vuemorph, Shukar Collective, and partner with Phil Western (RIP) for Off and Gone, Floatpoint and Landhip), this music invites the listener over to the edgier side of electronic music.

If this is for you, then dive deep in, lots to play with.

Bonus track "d'ice" - a trippy gift for buyers of the album.
