One year ago today I received the last Christmas gift I would ever receive from my grandparents in the mail. 😢💌

Since they were sending packages from England they always sent them early to make sure it would arrive on time.

A few weeks later my grandmother unexpectedly fell ill. Within two days of becoming ill she would pass away, and two days after that my grandfather who had been battling a long term illness would too. They both passed away the week leading up to last Christmas.

I was shattered. I couldn’t open the gift. And so, for one year it has sat here in the corner of our dining room waiting for me to one day have the strength to open it.

I plan to open it this Christmas, and also to look at more photos like this one with my family.

My grandparents absolutely loved Christmas 🥹. Though our first full Christmas season without them will undoubtedly be difficult, I hope that carrying on some of their traditions and incorporating them into new ones will make this Christmas extra meaningful. 🎄🫶🏽

“Michael Richards: Are You Down?” An art exhibit at 🖤

Last week, Aidan and I visited the Michael Richards exhibit at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. We learned about Richards on 9/11 this year. He was a sculptor and artist.

Tragically, Richards passed away on September 11, 2001 while working in his Lower Manhattan Cultural Council World Views studio on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center, Tower One.

Richards’ work was inspired by Blackness, flight, diaspora, spirituality, police brutality, and remains timely and resonant decades after its creation. It was an honor to see this curation of his work and to learn more about him as an artist!

Holiday Content Loading 🎄❤️

After a Thanksgiving Weekend well spent, I’m happy to report we were also successfully able to get some of our Christmas decorations up 🎅🏾! We also got some Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping done for gifts. 🎁

My very first 🎼

I invited my friend to join me for an evening of classical music at Richardson Auditorium. We got to see Jean Rondeau perform on the Harpsichord. As part of their Performances Up Close series we actually got to sit alongside him while he performed! It was so cool. ✨

After the performance we headed over to Maclean House for a special Friendsgiving Edition of Do-De-Meet where Jamie and participated in “Speed Friending”. We got to meet and chat with fellow concert goers and community members.

Sometimes, I feel guilty of not taking advantage of all that campus has to offer! I can’t believe this was my first concert on campus, definitely looking forward to attending more in the future. When’s the last time you tried something new in your area? ❤️

To My Husband 💌

14 years ago (next month), we met at a holiday party. On a whim, I slid into your *Facebook* DMs. I’d like to say “and the rest was history”, but it wasn’t that easy.

During the last 14 years we had to grow and mature both together and as individuals. We completed our higher education (in different cities) and started our careers. We spent a lot of time apart, but put in the work to remain connected. Many late nights you would pick me up from the train station after I had a long day of work and grad school just so you could see me that day.

We both dealt with loss. We both dealt with setbacks. And yet, the growing pains were just that. Each time, we came out stronger. It took us a long time to be able to move in together, to get engaged, to have a wedding. Sometimes the frustration of not being further along got to me. But, eventually, it all fell into place…better than I could have ever imagined. Every single thing from the proposal to the wedding was beyond my wildest dreams. Marrying you was truly the happiest day of my life. 🥹

Now that we are here, instead of being frustrated with how long it took us to get here, I can look back on these 14 years and see those years as our foundation, our strength, what we will ALWAYS be able to fall back on. 👏🏽

Thank you for always being my rock, my biggest cheerleader, and my forever. I love you. 🩷

It’s crazy to think that our Big Day has already come and gone 🥹. Luckily, with my new trunk I can store all our special wedding mementos.

It will be so great in years to come for all our special items from that day to be in one convenient location so we can open it up together and reminisce on our best day 🥰.

trunks are super customizable. I got a Swiss dot lining as a nod to the shoes I wore to our Welcome Party. I included our wedding tagline Forever Ferro and gold details since gold details were also part of our Wedding Day! Even the trunk by itself reminds me of our wedding with all the special personalizations.

I highly recommend one of these to all my brides! It also makes a great gift 🩷.

One year ago today, we had our first Engagement Photoshoot. 💍🩷

The 12 months since have been a whirlwind of planning, saving, spending, organizing and more. In the middle of this, I lost both of my grandparents unexpectedly and had to travel to England. Life keeps “life-ing”. No matter what you’re planning.

Someone asked me recently what my favorite part of planning has been, and honestly it’s the fact that through this crazy year, we have remained consistently devoted to each other. Despite having to sacrifice certain things and save, we always kept up our date nights. It was a way to stay grounded during all the craziness and also to celebrate this very special and unique time as an engaged couple. 🥰

So often when I search for Bridal Outfit inspo I only see summer dresses.

The truth is whether your bridal events are winter, spring, summer or fall there a PLENTY of chic white options! I just want all my fellow Fall/Winter brides not to feel discouraged if these are the only results they are seeing too.

Cheers to the Weekend! 🥂

Last year, after Dave proposed on the Jersey City waterfront, he took me to for dinner ❤️. We were both trying our best to be present that night, and ended up barely taking any photos!

To celebrate our engagement anniversary, we went back for a fun engagement shoot with our wedding photographer 💍. It was a great way to commemorate our one year engagement anniversary.

Bachelorette Weekend Edition of 💖🤌🏽🥂

It’s important to me to support NJ local, female owned and Black owned businesses, and for my Bachelorette Party it was no different!

My MOH worked with NJ based for custom cupcakes to fit the weekend’s “Petals and Prosecco” theme 🥂🌸. Victoria the pastry chef is self taught, everything is homemade and baked on site and the business is owned by a Mother-Daughter team.

We went to a couple of amazing local wineries which both had amazing food and wines to choose from and .

And then on our last night of the trip, Private Chef came and made an incredible dining experience for us all. Complete with on theme plating, even a potato in the shape of a rose 🌹🥹👏🏽. She is absolutely incredible and I highly recommend her for your next NJ event.

I can’t thank them enough for making my weekend so special…and DELICIOUS!

This weekend, my girls planned the best relaxing, wine weekend for me and I had so much fun. So many laughs. It was exactly what I needed.

It was also so wonderful to be able to bring together my best girlfriends from high school and college. The vibes were 🤌🏽.

Date Night in Hoboken ❤️

Dave and I dined at located in the last week. It was the perfect romantic date night!

Honestly some of the best cocktails we have EVER had. I highly recommend the “My Cherry Amour” 🍒🥂.

The flavors in my pasta were 🤌🏽. I had the Saffron Rigatoni which had local lobster, coral butter, lemon, and trumpet mushrooms.

We can’t wait to go back next time we’re in Hoboken!

I’ve loved adding fun personalized pieces representing Dave to my wardrobe during our engagement. I often see items on bridal sites that say “bride”, “wifey” or the Bride’s initials. I’ve had a fun time taking a different approach and personalizing items with Dave’s initials and last name to honor this super special time in our lives together 🩷💍.

Rosé All Day Season is coming to an end 😩🩷🥂, but not before Dave and I stopped at for lunch on their outdoor patio ☀️.

Their pretzel bites are the best I’ve ever had 👏🏽🥨.

There’s plenty of room to stay and lounge outside after lunch. They also have an outdoor bar where you can order and drinks while they close between lunch and dinner ❤️.

This week marks 1 year since we got engaged and 1.5 months until we get married. 💍

I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you guys I’m a bit all over the place. I’m excited, nervous, stressed. I’ve heard a time or two that Wedding Planning is not for the weak, and I can in fact now confirm this to be true 🤣😅.
