For more than 60 years in Milwaukee, it was pretty easy being green. For decades, the Green Sheet — which ran Monday through Saturday in the afternoon newspaper, The Milwaukee Journal — was a primary destination for readers looking for a laugh, some advice, some nostalgia, a smile. It was a shade of green — somewhere between light green and forest green, if you're a 64-Crayola-crayon-color purist

— that, to many newspaper readers, offered a break from the sobering side of the day. In 2015, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revived the beloved section. As with the Green Sheet of old, its intent is to provide a daily respite, with words and pictures that might make you smile, and laugh, and remember.

Don't worry: The Green Sheet, which we first brought back in May 2015, will continue, both in print and online (https://www.jsonline.com/green-sheet/), and you will still see Green Sheet stories posting on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's main page. In 1968, Milwaukee, still pining for a major-league team of its own, effectively rented one, bringing in the Chicago White Sox to play one regular-season game against each American League opponent. The results on the field weren't as good as the results at the ticket window.

In 1968, Milwaukee's baseball faithful would do anything to get a major-league team here. For 10 games, Chicago's White Sox were Milwaukee's home team.
