Summer with Monika by Roger McGough.
A collection of poems kinda inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film of the same name. - this is the reason I picked it up at the Library I work at.
It’s ok, I liked the illustrations that go with it which are by Chris Riddell and were added for the 50th Anniversary version.
The lines feature in this photo made me think of the use of the moon keeping them company and as to whether that was an allusion to Romeo and Juliet (O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon,
That monthly changes in her circled orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.) - the moon is changeable and if it’s keeping them company perhaps they are changeable too and like in the movie the passion between the young lovers fizzles out.
But yeah it was alright, that’s the review 😂
