A few months ago, in March 2024, I shared this video from the Student National Medical Associationās Annual Medical Education Conferenceāthe largest gathering of underrepresented minority medical and premedical students in the United States. It quickly gained 27M views and received incredible support, but it also brought an outpouring of vitriolic and rcst comments.
I wish I could have dismissed these remarks as bots, but in a time when Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts are being politicized and weaponized, I know they represent something deeper. These moments serve as a stark reminder that the work to diversify healthcare and uplift Black doctors is far from over.
As we begin 2025, let this be a call to action to challenge these barriers and advocate for a more inclusive, equitable future in medicine. Representation matters.
