The dude is like a musical genius, part of a kickass family, and a piano wizard of epic proportions in America. But hey, he's not just a buddy, he was also a bigwig on the Governor’s LOUISIANA MUSIC. COMMISSION alongside Chairman Ellis Marsalis, Art Neville, Chuck CredoIII, Irma Thomas, Jean Knight, John Fred, Tommy Comeaux, Ken Shepherd, and me as Executive Director for 4 Administrations !Plus, he's a brainiac and a creative mastermind. I put these two together as kids to perform with the Legendary Doug Kershaw for the US Tresurer, Governer and hundreds of others at the historical Louisiana Quarter Launch at the Jazz Museum in the Mint.

Having been one of the original “Cute Guys” in Amanda Shaw‘s band for over a year. I knew we played jambalaya in the key of A but that wasn’t necessarily the key to Doug or Hunter played it .Hunter was playing accordion he was probably seven or eight years old , Amanda was probably 11. we went in the back of the mint and rehearsed made to be sure everybody was on key and when they got out the stage for the United States Treasurer and even the Governor Foster started dancing. It was a memorable moment in my career and I’ll never forget it and it was a great day for LOUISIANA because, as a member of the Coin committee, I made sure we put music on that historical coin . It is one of only two states including Tennessee and Louisiana to do such recognition of the musical industry

“Hey Hunter Hayes wanna get the band back together?!”

So incredibly fun running into my old friend Hunter Hayes in Nashville recently! It was great catching up and reminiscing. Do yall remember when we used to play shows together as kids?!

What have you guys been up to this week?!

In response to my friend and fellow musician Paul Kerry’s lament today, I posted this related to our business with them.

In my Music Commissioner memoirs, I dedicated a chapter to the Grammys and our efforts to bring their Hall of Fame to our city. We faced challenges when the CEO Michael Greene came under fire for his personal conduct, leading us to reassess the project's viability. Despite signing a contract, the deal fell through due to political maneuvering. The Hall of Fame ended up in Los Angeles, but there's more to this story than just setbacks. I acknowledge the politics at play in all award ceremonies.

“...On The Walls Of The Hall Of Fame”

The Louisiana Music Commission Hall Of Fame’s story begins in 1991 as founder, Bernie Cyrus, began his tenure as the head of The Louisiana Music Commission as appointed by Governor Mike Foster. Through Bernie’s leadership, The State Of Louisiana was led into a new era of culture exposition, with The LMC actively promoting the music of Louisiana across the country. For decades, The LMC thrived on the continued success of its board members and cultural programs, featuring a diverse membership of musicians appointed from across the state. The LMC board had one goal: to aid, assist, and promote the music and musicians of Louisiana.

The LMC Hall Of Fame was founded as a natural progression of this incredible partnership. Each year, members of The Louisiana Music Advisory Board assemble in Baton Rouge to vote on a new class of influential Louisiana artists to add to the current roster of over 400 inductees. The unique nature of the LMC Hall Of Fame can be found in this process - musicians recognizing musicians. A concert celebration is held each year to honor the newest class of “Louisiana Legends”, which has featured performances by some of Louisiana’s finest.

In the words of our founder, “Without any further Oo-poo-pa-do...” Welcome to The Louisiana Music Commission Hall Of Fame!
