Sharing that I’m close to publishing as a first time author, this writing project has been a personal one for me to process some trauma personally, create opportunities and growth for myself and a goal to help just one mother navigate the complexities of our maternal health care more easily. I look forward to providing updates as we approach the release next month.

When I think about all the times I’ve been terrified in my life, I’m grateful for the growth on the other end. As I help others overcome their own fears and obstacles as a coach, leader, educator and mentor, I always come at it as a guide because I’m still and always will be working on myself and bravely going forward even when I’m scared. Recently one of those fears has been on sharing and putting myself out there… I’m also on my own 12 step path as a closet creative, and love knowing I’m not alone! Excited to share some creative projects I’ve been working on for sometime now. Would love to connect one on one if you are struggling with sharing and putting yourself out there creatively too

A dear friend sent me this yesterday and it symbolizes so much, one of many being that amazing individuals are hard at work creating change that will save the lives of mothers. Also that it’s the collective power of stories shared that will inform these changes

I was scared to share my twin birth story and NICU stay during the pandemic, especially the challenges i faced as a woman of color. But with courage and grace from God, I chose to share my story on my podcast and catch the full episode via the link in my bio.

The experience of my journey to motherhood has changed my life. It has taught me the importance of sharing our stories and strengthened my ‘why’ to this day. My husband and I are proud to share our story, even though we were truly terrified throughout our birth and NICU experience. We had some laughs along the way! But the importance of sharing this story has been instrumental in allowing me to better connect the dots on how I can serve my community in my new role as a mother. Through this experience, I am now more passionate than ever to continue working towards making a positive difference.

This weekend I thought I’d be saying goodbye to my 13 yr old retriever Shepherd mix, Paix but a quick decision to reduce his suffering by getting him emergent surgery he needed has given us some more time and we are grateful for that time. I never take for granted the presence of the humans in my life but also my cherished pets. My husband and I had a laugh today at our crazy morning with one of my toddlers having a p**p accident requiring an immediate bath, the other p*eing on herself as we cleaned her twin, and Paix also joining in the p*e accident train due to his recent procedure…. We were both just belly laughing, happy that at least we are all here and together regardless of how unglamorous that was. Share your stories no matter how big, small, cool, or uncool! Have a story or topic you would love for me to feature on the podcast, leave me a DM.

I have always been and always will be inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and never take for granted the power of those words and the freedoms I enjoy today. These two quotes resonate with me greatly in my creative journey.

It’s that time of year for self reflection on the past year, and who we want to be in this one.🌸 I tend to start my reflection in the fall around November, I like being well into whatever areas I’m hoping to improve on, also it meshes better for my cycle. I love to rest at the start of the year, take time off to reset and give myself lots of grace! As a proud late bloomer I’m glad I’m continually building balance and purpose in the habits and goals I set for me and our family. Past it’s ok to also just be!

From Sweet Sorrella to you and yours wishing you a warm, restful and comforting holiday. Taking time to rest creatively, spiritually, physically and play with the twins. I know the holidays can hold a lot of different emotions for all of us, remember to reach out and offer support whether that’s a phone call, text, or a seat at the table to those in need of love, support or company.

I struggle to find all the words to use to convey how has truly changed my life. It is the most humbling, joyful, yet challenging experience that I have ever had. Most of all it has and will always make me be braver than I ever thought I could be. This bravery is stemmed in the overwhelming support I received from the mothers around me and those that came before. The sacrifices I observe them make continuously and the realization that we need each other and must help one another to reduce each other’s suffering by the simple act of sharing our stories.

The intro for the podcast made visual!

I got a question about the podcast and how easy or hard the process is. The podcasting process like anything creative can be as easy or as hard as you make it, it has been a journey to get to this point and it is the beginning. I haven’t done it alone, I asked for lots of help, learned from others and always will. It’s very humbling and it helps me to grow by being more vulnerable. Like anything you have to have a passion or at least be very curious to learn and grow.

Over a year ago I had a deep curiosity and went with it, building it bit by bit, taking breaks but never giving up, hoping to get better as I practice and just show up to share stories. It has never been easier to do a podcast but happy to share the journey and process.

Story telling is a powerful outlet of creativity for me, and I know it is a big buzz word these days. It has always been in the background for my life and a tool I used to cope when I look back on any hard times in my life from childhood to now.

I remember writing stories in my notebooks as a child, some made up, some real, I remember spending hours day dreaming and creating characters and timelines.

Fast forward and writing has been my most enjoyable form of storytelling as an adult. A year and a half ago after becoming a mom, I wanted more and I felt called to do more. I wanted to use my voice to tell stories that shared different viewpoints and allowed others to enter the world of others to foster connection and understanding.

The Sweet Sorrella Stories podcast creates a platform and joins others in storytelling in a way that promotes authenticity, fully embracing ones positionality and the beauty in living a creative life. Tune i to hear some of my stories that show my lens as a late bloomer, proud nerd, immigrant from Africa, Christian, new mother, wife, student, coach, clinician, and leader.

I have learned to embrace all of my identities and invite others to do the same, sharing life stories and tips, and advice with research on relationships, wellness, creativity, leadership, entrepreneurship and motherhood.

I'd love for you to be a part of it, listen, share and message me on any topics or questions you want tackled, and steps to share your story, I'd be honored!

Hi there, allow me to welcome you back and reintroduce you to my little corner of the internet.

13yrs ago armed with very little knowledge, I knew I wanted to spread joy by being a part of people's specialty events, their weddings, birthdays, baby showers...you name it.

I wanted to share my love for design, flowers, crafting and a passion for becoming an entrepreneur with the world. I called it the "sweet sister" I coined Sweet Sorrella with a nod to my love for sweets, celebrating life, my friends, family and the sorrel plant.

While juggling learning the ropes of being a solo business owner the hard way and enjoying incredible collaborations and features with Nordstrom, Etsy, Amy Atlas, David Tutera and so many other talented individuals.....Boom that's when life happened in a major way, I had a divorce and I chose to let it all go.

At the time, I didn't think I had it in me to keep all the balls in the air: a career, while rediscovering, reinventing and healing myself from a painful divorce. I saw my stopping as a failure, and wanted to erase it all completely so that it never existed as a reminder of my past.

Now as I reflect on that time I have no regrets in pausing being an entrepreneur, because I used the time to heal and find myself again. But I'm so glad I didn't completely delete the name or stories, because it is now a rich past and a beautiful reminder of where it all started and I'm excited to share here, my new journey into creativity.

I'm no longer helping people design their events but instead I now have a passion for helping others design and redesign their future lives through coaching to discover the power of creativity, authenticity and storytelling to create their impact on the world in every area of their lives as I strive to do in mine daily. For me these areas are my faith, motherhood, health and wellness, relationships, and my career as a physician associate, coach and entrepreneur.

Thank you for following along and I look forward to growing with you.

Take care
Ivy
