Celebrating its third anniversary this November, the first vinyl release from the celebrated Motor City Label Exchange Bureau Music showcases highlights from its collection of over thirty digital releases to date. While it may be easy to categorize Exchange Bureau as an electronic
label, they push the limits with every release intertwining house, funk, soul, hip hop & techno to create a unique catalog that is difficult to define. While media focuses on a city in ruins, the arts thrive within the decay and abandonment. The Big 3 is a testament to this with local veteran and emerging producers, as well as support from international talent who hold high regard for Detroit’s influential past and present. At the helm of The Big 3 are label owners Joshua Adams and Paul Katcher.
“Manufacturing has always been the staple that supported Detroit’s other industries,” Katcher points out, “Now, the last remnants of that supporting structure are being packed up. It’s against this backdrop that much of the music featured on this project was produced. This release encapsulates what we sound like as a whole and includes as many members of our roster as 72” of vinyl will allow.”
Much like these remnants of industry, Exchange Bureau Music has packaged and will export 22 tracks spanning three colored vinyl LPs showcasing past, present and future funk from almost 40 artists. This “instant classic” collector’s piece will be strictly limited to 500 copies, with a gatefold cover showcasing photography by Beatrice Katcher and design by Joshua Adams.
