Started in 1999 by DJ Kamar as a synthpop and new wave show, Destination Unknown gained a popular following with a fanbase interested in both new and old paths of those genres. In 2007, Kamar bequeat
hed the show to DJ Qbot, whose own eclectic tastes expanded on the original concept. Qbot in turn entrusted the navigation of Destination Unknown to current host Kat O'Rly in April of 2013. The show in its present form encompasses a wide variety of electronic and experimental music, past and present. You might hear an evening of newly released music, a live or DJ set from an in-studio guest, and/or a special theme or tribute. You might hear techno, house, disco, footwork, early electronic, noise, drone, ambient...You might dance around your kitchen or drift off on the couch or make the person next to you at the traffic light wonder what amazing radio program you're listening to in the car. Special attention is paid to Chicago artists, labels, and upcoming events, as well as to the work of women artists. Select shows are available for streaming at the Destination Unknown SoundCloud and Mixcloud pages. We are working to get recent shows posted online on a more regular basis, and will be adding shows from 2013-2014 as well. For older playlists and archives please visit djqbot.com/destinationunknown.
