The Little Company That Could
Like many creative companies, this one started with a crazy dream...and a series of novellas. I (Spring Horton) had started writing The Atticus McLaren Mysteries in 2016 with the idea that the world needed more autistic representation, especially of the adult persuasion. So, Atticus was born; a museum tech turned amateur detective from Edinburgh, Scotland. At some point in the summer of 2017, I decided it would make a good TV show. After many attempts to sell it to Hollywood, a nightmarish phone call with a Hollywood lawyer, and some discussions with my fellow creatives, we’d suddenly decided to make it ourselves!
Now, six or so short months later, we’ve gone from trying to get someone to help us make a TV show, to forming our own company. That’s not to say we won’t still need help! Divergence Productions is a tiny start up at this point, named to reflect the team members’ thoughts on filmmaking. We aren’t interested in the status quo; in spending millions of dollars to make “blockbusters”, in simply selling our ideas and giving over creative control, or in riding the coat tails of our peers because people recognize their names. We’re in it to make new, thought-provoking, quality entertainment, that we control, and to work with people we like and admire, even if you haven’t heard of them yet!
We hope you’ll join us for this ride! Keep an eye out for upcoming projects as they might be anything from short form series, films, and even book publishing!
