The Revenge Of Vinyl Remember walking into your favorite record shop and looking through the albums, singles, reel to reels, cassettes, even, dare I say it 8-tracks. Really?

It’s no secret that cd’s killed off the vinyl album. And to be honest cd’s were not all that bad, they were really a revelation. Clean sound, no skips, longer lengths, which usually meant bonus material (i.e.; unreleased songs, demo’s, live recordings, outtakes) not available on the vinyl’s. But still at only 5” reading liner notes or looking at the art work or pictures or ‘mini posters’ without t

he aid of glasses or a magnifying glass was crazy. Not to mention the art of the “Cover” was gone. Then came the downloads, cloud services, streaming etc. Why buy a cd when you can just ‘subscribe’ to a service and get any song you want. And for the artist it has become a problem too. You can’t rely on ‘album sales’ anymore, now it’s in the cloud in the form of streaming services. With streaming services you get paid by the play. Sounds good right? But no, your only getting fractions of a penny per play, so unless your getting a bazillion plays your not getting a whole lot of money. Here’s the thing, how do you hold the cloud? How do read the liner notes, admire the cover art or photo’s, or a poster that came with the album, `oh wait you need a computer or an iPad or something to see it on the screen. Now I know it’s convenient and space saving to “have it all” in your iPod or iPhone or iMac or iwhatever. But there is something missing….I’m sorry but there is nothing like buying something and holding it, feeling it, looking at it as well as hearing it. It’s something tangible! You go to the store, you look at it, decide if you want to buy it, they bag it and you bring it home. Once your home and you are ready, you take this ‘item” out of the bag, usually take the shrink wrap off, go to your turntable place the disc on the platter and away you go. When your done, put it back in it’s jacket and place it on the shelf to be played again. It’s yours! You own it. You know what, I am not alone thinking this. Has anyone noticed how many stores are selling records and turntables again? Has anyone noticed how many record shops are opening? Has anyone noticed how many ‘new’ artists are releasing new Vinyl’s as well as cd and cloud based material? And as for the computer and apps and online stores, have you noticed how many services are coming out featuring vinyl for you to buy? Daily text messages to your phone featuring a vinyl for your consideration? I’m not kidding, check it out! Well this sight is dedicated to all things analog, but mostly vinyl. I would like to feature LP’s, singles, stores, special events, stories etc. all related to the REVENGE OF VINYL. Now I will say upfront that there will definitely be a slant towards Beatles albums from me but I will try to showcase as many artists as I can. Hopefully that’s where you guys come in to share your stuff. Usually 2-3 times a month I will try and post a live feed featuring an album you may have or never have seen. Rarities, picture LP’s, colored vinyl (my favorite) as well as ‘other’ gems. I would love to ‘hear’ from you and I really need your help!. Suggestions, favorite albums you have as well as posting your material here too!. Videos or pictures showing your favorite’s. This will be a community for all of us to share. So join me as we enjoy The Revenge Of Vinyl.
