THE CURSE OF THE BLESSED
By Regina Mariel Quillo
Blessed be to you, oh youth
For your voice had sung in harmonies,
Your melodies spoken the wisest truths
And had given light to all of the living.
Blessed be to you, oh youth
Flying as high as the mightiest eagles,
Foreseeing the unreadable future,
Lifted voices for the unspoken,
And fed all those who lived in hunger.
But oh, the humanity of greed and pride
Plucked out your eyes,
Severed your wings,
Slit your throat,
And took your voice.
“Curse you, oh youth
For we'll sing of vanity
Curse you, oh youth
For disobeying our intricate ‘laws’
We will live with the fire burning beneath our feet,
To lust over fame and authority among the feeble.”
For the world made of men,
And for the men;
Will continue to live within the darkness.
Those who strive for liberty and truth,
Shall be recognized by all of the living,
To ascend the highest peaks through their fiercest courage.
May you, oh youth, live to see a world,
A world where their truths have freed the shackles of wickedness.

ICYMI: Women of UST-JPIA: Taking up Space in Academic Leadership
Proving that women can thrive in taking traditionally male-dominated roles, these three presidents of UST-JPIA (for A.Y. 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024) showed what truly defines leadership – one with purpose and causes growth, an avenue for self-discovery, and an instrument for empowerment.

Fear of the Real Threats
by Jaycylle Soto
It may be just a normal day for others – but, for her, this is the day. The day when everything will be realized. Her efforts, determination, and sleepless nights will now bear results.
One by one, she wore her Barong Tagalog and Bakya, complementing it with a pearl necklace and triquetra earrings.
She entered the hall alone, but not alone. With her Barong Tagalog covering her body, she is with the people who never felt safe expressing themselves, afraid of the unaccepting minds of the people and the abusive hands of the physically strong ones. As she walks with her Bakya, she is with the people who perform better than anyone else, only to accept a few hundred pesos. With the pearl necklace resting on her neck, she is with the people who were shut down as they continue to work despite being sexually harassed. And as her triquetra earrings dangle, she is with the people who never had the chance to flourish in their careers just because they bleed, just because they had to take care of their child. She is with the people who are pained and hurt just because they are not the traditional.
Her eyes roamed through the people in the hall as her ears listened to hundreds of mouths voicing their complaints, opinions, and beliefs. There, she saw people fighting – for the children and their dreams, for the farmers and their crops, and for the people and their rights. And there are those who change lives with just a lift of a hand.
All it takes is two-thirds of the total votes. All it takes is two-thirds of them raising their hands.
She was confident. After all, what she proposed is for the benefit of all.
But as soon as she raised her hand, guns were already pointed towards her.
Maybe this is not the day for her, but the day for you to fight for her.

The Blip
It was the break of dawn, and the day was nearing after a night of books, coffee, and video lectures. Under the lamp's light, Mina shone a pale coral as she stared at the unsolvable problem, daring her to return to the grips of a breakdown. Looking up, the doodled capital letter M given by her blockmates stared back, and a newfound courage boiled within her.

“Will You Be My AMValentine?”: Creating An Atmosphere of Love Within the AMVian Community
I tried to find a hundred ways to tell you how much I love you, but I began to realize it was harder than it seemed. It was as if words were too much or too little. No poem, no story, no novel I could write would ever suffice. So until then, I’ll ask you how you are; ask about your day. I’ll hold your hand when you’re scared. I’ll try my best to make you laugh whenever you feel lonely or sit with you in silence if that’s what you need. I’ll stay. Because maybe love isn’t about knowing the right words after all. It’s knowing that words aren’t enough.

Why do we search for love? Love can be painful—like a tight grip around one’s heart, it can make tears fall. Still, we long for it. Love can be lost—like the time that passed, it can never be brought back. Still, we wait for it. Only a few get their chances at love for a lifetime. Some only last for months, years, or even decades—fewer make the most out of them.
