GOVERNOR ODODO COMMENDS MEDIA PRACTITIONERS ON WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has praised the sacrifices and contributions of media practitioners in deepening the democratic space.

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day May, Governor Ododo eulogized the press for its role in holding the government to account in the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people.

The Kogi State Governor noted that the 2024 commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day is a reminder of the importance of a free and independent press in our democracy.

"As Governor, I am proud to recognize the crucial role that journalists and the vibrant press play in holding those in power accountable and shedding light on the programmes and policies of the government in way that the people need to be told”, Governor Ododo said.

The Governor acknowledged that a free press is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy and that citizens must protect and promote press freedom by whatever it takes to do so.

He said journalists risk their lives every day to disseminate information to society, and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that they can do so without fear of humiliation, intimidation or harm in the process.

"On this World Press Freedom Day, I honor the bravery of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of truth and transparency and promoting understanding in the democratic space.

I also recognize the challenges they are confronted with in today's world, from censorship and disinformation to violence and intimidation.

As Governor, I reaffirm my commitment to protecting press freedom and promoting a culture of transparency and accountability in our state. Let us stand together in defense of freedom of the press and the courageous journalists who bring us the truth undiluted”, Governor Ododo emphasized.

The Governor urged the people of the state to celebrate the critical work that journalists are doing in defending the truth and confronting negative narratives which he noted is essential for the nation's democracy to thrive.

The Governor enjoined the people of Kogi state to continue to stand united for the truth despite the antics of purveyors of misinformation against the developmental strides of his administration.

Kogi Tribunal Report:
PRP vs Governor Ododo
(*Adoption of Final Written Addresses*)
Victory for Governor Ododo as PRP abandoned petition, consequently ask tribunal to dismiss their petition on the ground that, if the Tribunal Lordships are satisfied with their findings that Governor Ododo scored 14 percent spread of majority lawful votes cast out of 21 LGAs, and with no regard to their petition on the allegation of over voting and mutilation in Okene LGA, Adavi LGA and Okehi respectively.

Moreso, Governor Ododo defense counsel told the Tribunal to dismiss their petition entirely because It's was filed out of time, and in view PRP petition is statues barred, just like SDP petition,in which CBN Governor's representative through one Onyinalu Maduka the Assistant Director of Department of Banking and Corporate Services, affirmed to the Tribunal in his testimony that SDP filed his petition out of time, given to the validation date of payment of receipt through remitta.

Moreover, INEC lawyer also told the tribunal in accordance with supreme Court judgement, that Tribunal can not give probative value to their petition , since is narrowed and statues barred.

Governor Ododo lawyer also cited PRP Star witness testimony, where he stated that, he collated is evidence from watching TV 😁 .
furthermore, the defense counsel told the tribunal Judges that such testimony constituted a hearsay and has no place in law, and can't be said to be beyond reasonable doubt, as regards to the law and provision of electoral act in the case of election petition.

In view , he urge the Lordship to strike out the petition entirely.

However, Barrister Isaac Ekpa for the PRP petitioner , argued that, the tribunal Judges should look into other ground (matters) of their petition and nullify the entire election, and consequently order for fresh election in entire Kogi state .
In a meantime, Tribunal Lordships, after taken their oral addresses and submission on their written addresses ; he reserve judgement for a date to be communicated to the counsels through the secretary of the tribunal.
NB:
1.SDP petition will suffer the fate of PRP petition as they are similar in nature for been filed out of time.
2.SDP also failed to meet constitutional requirement spread of 14 LGAs majority lawful votes cast out of 21 LGAs;
whereas SDP relief is for tribunal to declare her the lawful winner of the election but her failure to scored majority lawful votes in 14 LGAs,will severely damage her case .

Side view, this is while they have abandoned Tribunal proceeding to commence shadow chasing on social media trial of the man through whose hand God granted Governor Ododo and APC victory.

In Another Related Development:
another case is also been mentioned for hearing as at the time of filing this report:
AA vs Governor Ododo.
But as you all know, their ships is heading toward same rock 😁.
AA.....the party scored just 1,400 votes ,as such Governor Ododo defense counsel told the tribunal that ,AA has no reason to be in the court.
But the Tribunal as also reserved Judgement on AA vs Governor Ododo, and to be communicated through tribunal secretary.
But more details on AA petition later .

*Rejoice, and i say rejoice ye of APC and Governor Ododo*

TODAY IT IS YAHAYA BELLO BUT TOMORROW IT WILL BE YOU.

By

JESUTEGA ONOKPASA.

Certain significances disclosed by the ongoing faceoff between former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should give us of the All Progressives Congress, APC, much course for concern as a party.

While we most certainly do not, cannot, must not and will not condone corruption in any of its manifestations, we mustn't give the impression that as a party, we are so lawless as to condone illegalities under the guise of fighting corruption.

While the EFCC is presently canvassing the disgracefully pedestrian position that its faceoff with Yahaya Bello is a case of corruption fighting back, it is actually a case of corruption pretending to be fighting corruption on the part of the EFCC.

Every human being in this world, indeed, absolutely every person, citizen or foreigner, even illegal alien, is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello is no exception to this universal rule of the presumption of innocence and it is most shameful that such a resourceful and contributory stakeholder in our party should be abandoned by certain members of our party at this moment of challenge, even to the extent of a number of lightweight quantities in the party baying for his blood and calling for his head.

We are a party and only strong to the extent that we stand together.

That we ought to rally round our brother, Yahaya Adoza Bello, cannot amount to endorsing corruption especially when it is now most profusely obvious that he is the victim of a witch-hunt being orchestrated by well-known adversaries.

It is crystal clear that while the EFCC is trying to hoodwink the public into buying the utterly nonsensical notion that it is fighting corruption, it is actually just a pretense in furtherance of a personal vendetta on behalf of Bello's political enemies.

In the process, key persons in our party's government have embarked on the bastardisation of our institutions of state.

We are now faced with the utter and most shameful embarrassment of the lawyer to an opposition candidate we thoroughly defeated in Kogi being the same lawyer the power drunk and woefully unprofessional Chairman of the EFCC retained to hound, harass our fellow party man.

As if this was not already disgusting enough, the opposition Senator from Kogi Central now even has the nerve to be harassing her former Governor and the first Ebira man to become a Governor.

What impression are we giving to our party supporters?

That we are a platform of backstabbers and traitors who cannot stand with a comrade in trouble?

That we are just some aggregation of cutthroats, in short a coven of users and dumpers of our most able, capable and reliable stalwarts?

We are playing with fire if we continue on this most politically imbecilic path.

Why is the Chairman of the EFCC so carried away?

Instead of sending a man, who happens to be a former state Governor a proper documented invitation, you call him on the phone?

Seeking to tarnish his reputation, you accuse the sitting Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, of smuggling his predecessor out of his residence only for you to then confess that you, yourself, was the one who offered to smuggle him through the backdoor into your office!

For God's sake, we are old, experienced and knowledgeable enough to know a shake down when we see one.

You break the law by violating a restraining order of court; you file a notice of appeal out of time, and, you proceed to leak documents that are years old as if they are new document, none of which, prima facie, are proof of crime but proof of payment of school fees!

If I were a superstitious person, I would surmise that Yahaya Bello had esoterically remoted the EFCC into making a complete mockery of itself by most enthusiastically undermining what is obviously the contrived case it claims to have against the former Kogi Governor and playing into his hands.

What did our brother, Yahaya even do to warrant this degree of hatred, conspiracy and harassment?

When it mattered most, Yahaya stood shoulder to shoulder with us and manifestly delivered for our candidate, our party and President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The excesses and shenanigans of the EFCC in this matter, as with many others, have been a total travesty against our brother and fellow party man, Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Yahaya Bello delivered an entire state to us while those presently hounding him lost their states, local government areas, wards and even polling units, including those right in front of their houses!

We would do well to remember we won the last election with less than 40 percent of the vote.

That is the lowest margin of victory since 1999 and it is testament that, for some reason, God wanted President Bola Tinubu to govern this country and take it to its rightful place in the international arena.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo will on Friday unveil new set of security vehicles to enhance efficiency of community policing in all local government areas in the state.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah, noted that the new set of security vehicles to be distributed to all the 21 local government areas in the state is aimed at boosting community policing initiative of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo through the Kogi state vigilante service.

The statement added that the new set of vehicles is also part of measures to lay the foundation for a new template for community policing as part of the security architecture in Kogi State.

Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended recent onslaught by security agencies in Kogi East against criminals operating in the area.

The governor praised the efforts of the caretaker chairman of Dekina local government, Honourable John Urah Ikani over the arrest of a gang of kidnappers who were allegedly invited to Ochaja from a state in the North West by kidnap kingpin who has been at large.

The suspected kidnappers who have been assisting security agencies with useful information, the statement noted, were arrested by members of the vigilante group around Ochaja area while on routine patrol and they have since confessed to be working for the notorious kidnap kingpin who is said to have been terrorizing victims in communities between Dekina and Ankpa local government areas.

The Governor urged all caretaker chairmen of local government areas in the state to prioritize security of lives and property in their respective council areas, stressing that it is better to prevent crime than going after criminals when the crime has taken place.

Governor Ododo promised that the state government would continue to provide necessary support to ensure security of lives and property in all parts of Kogi State.
