Tipografsku disciplinu vezujemo najčešće i najviše za statična tipografska rešenja. Kreativni studio DIA koristi tehnološke mogućnosti današnjice kako bi tipografskim rešenjima dao dodatnu dimenziju–kretanje. Kinetička tipografija, koju u studio unosi Mitch Paone zahvaljujući svom iskustvu u radu sa grafičkom animacijom i filmskom produkcijom, postaje zaštitni znak studia. Njihov portfolio je pun prezentacija sa smelim vizuelnim identitetom koji koristi fuziju tehnologije i tipografskih oblika da „rigidan“ tipografski dizajn pretvori u fleksibilan i vremenski ograničen format. Lična Paoneova filozofija, koja usmerava i njegov kreativni proces glasi: Ukloniti ego iz vašeg kreativnog procesa. Postati jedno sa radom kroz sistem neanalitičke iteracije. Odvojiti sebe od rada kako biste u potpunosti bili otvoreni za kritike i savete. Otići daleko od komfort zone. Ekstremna koncentracija, meditacija… Za mene su ovo postulati da postanete virtuoz u čemu god da ste zamislili da želite da se bavite.

Ove godine na PDP Conference imaćete prilike da se upoznate sa Paoneom koji će predstaviti kreativne projekte na kojima studio radi.

The typographic discipline is most often related to static typographic solutions. Creative studio DIA combines contemporary technology to add an additional dimension to typography–time. The kinetic typography brought in the studio by Mitch Paone through his background in motion graphic and film production has become a studio’s trademark. The studio’s portfolio comprises of bold visual identity solution that fuses technology and typography in order to shift the „rigid“ typographic design to a flexible and time-based format. Paone’s creative work is led by his personal philosophy: Removing your ego from creativity. Becoming one with your work by getting in a flow of non–analytical iteration. Detaching yourself from your work to become completely open for critique and advice. Getting far out of your comfort zone. Extreme concentration, meditation… To me, these things are a foundation to becoming a virtuoso at whatever you set your mind to.

This year at PDP Conference you will have the opportunity to meet Paone who is going to present the creative projects on which the studio has been working on.

Grafički umetnik, Patrick Thomas Studio, čiji se radovi izlažu u Nelly Duff galeriji u Londonu, predstaviće se publici na ovogodišnjoj PDP Conference. Rad ovog umetnika oslanja se na sliku i priliku modernog društva, koju prenosi manipulišući sa običnim znakovima i simbolima. Kroz tehniku preusmeravanja konteksta i reorganizacije kompozicije, Thomas svakodnevne predmete pretvara u neuobičajen društveno–politički komentar. Iako ikoničnost njegove ekspresije nije tipičan predstavnik dizajna aktivizma, ipak kroz njegova dela primećujemo elemente grafičkog dizajna kako se upliću u jednu ikoničku naraciju čija estetika prkosi dizajn kulturi potrošačkog društva.

Patrick Thomas, a graphic artist whose art is displayed in Nelly Duff gallery in London, is going to give a talk at this year’s PDP Conference. Thomas’ artwork is based on the observations of the modern society which he depicts through manipulation of the common signs and symbols. Using the techniques of recontextualizing and repositioning the artist turns everyday objects into unusual social and political commentary. Even though his iconic expression is not a typical imagery of the design activism, we can still detect traces of graphic design elements and how they intertwine to create an iconic narrative with an aesthetic that defies design in the consumer culture.

Novi Marvel film, Black Panther, bogat je vizuelnim elementima koji se prožimaju kroz arhitekturu, odevne predmete, nakit i, ono što je veoma zanimljivo, tipografiju. Tipografska jedinstvenost ovog filma ogleda se u pismu BEYNO, koje istovremeno odiše geometrijskom i futurističnom atmosferom, sa primesama afričke kulture. Dodatna specifičnost ovog tipografskog ugođaja je animirani efekat tranzicije između latiničnog i Wakanda alfabeta. The new Marvel movie Black Panther is rich in visuals through depicted architecture, clothing, jewelry, and quite interestingly, typography. The uniqueness of the movie’s typography lies in the typeface BEYNO which is both geometric and futuristic in it appearance, with a pinch of African culture. An additional peculiarity of this typographic experience is the animated Wakandan-to-Latin type transition effect. According to Steven Heller, a typographer, unlike a type designer, is the professional who makes letters on a page or screen come to life through aesthetic manipulation and organizational set up i.e. principles of composition. Even though the difference between a typographer and graphic designer to a layperson is covert, the practitioners of these professions make a clear distinction between the two. Zapravo, predstavljamo stranice koje su omiljene kod onih koji su zaljubljeni u izgled i aranžman slova na papiru ili ekranu. Ovo je informativan i edukativan sadržaj izložen na takav način da je veoma dostupan za svakoga. Ponekad tipografiju prihvatamo zdravo za gotovo zbog njene sveprisutnosti. Međutim, teško je zamisliti oblik reči bez tipografije i savremenu komunikaciju bez razmišljanja o funkcionalnom i kreativnom tipografskom iskazu.

Nowadays, visual identity design goes beyond the creative solution for print materials only. There is an indisputable need for an approach that will establish communication with the audience through additional mediums like web pages and mobile applications. Such mediums require different design approach that involves user experience, and consequently, user interface design. A creative team from Novi Sad with a super awesome name - Superawesome, navigates through conventional and contemporary communication mediums beautifully. Their projects portfolio is the evidence! Our special recommendation is visual identity design for the Street Musicians Festival (Festival uličnih svirača) 2016 which will "walk you through" the suburb of Petrovaradin fortress.

An extract from a particular tutorial that we have decided to share with you addresses the role of hierarchy within a typographic design. The hierarchy is used as the visual guide through designed information. Inicijativa nekolicine Beograđana da svoj grad predstave onakvim kakav jeste, bez režiranih scena i popularnih turističkih kadrova, pretvorila se u dugogodišnji projekat pod nazivom Belgrade Raw. Inspirisani pionirima nerežirane fotografije saturisanih boja koja prikazuje tzv. međutrenutke svakodnevnog života, poput William Eggleston, ovaj kolektiv svojom fotografskom analizom prikazuje urbani i društveni aspekt jedne metropole. Danas njihova arhiva broji preko 1000 fotografija koje će vas oduševiti svojom iskrenošću.

The initiative of a group of people from Belgrade developed under the name Belgrade Raw with the aim to show the city in its true existence by capturing candid street moments and avoiding popular tourist scenes. They found the inspiration in the work of pioneers of saturated colour photography depicting in-between moments of everyday occurrences like the work of William Eggleston. Through their photographic analysis, the collective tells a story of the urban and social aspects of a metropolis. Their current archive is rich with photographs that will move you with their honesty.
