Due to a recent website outage, our submission database SQL server rolled back. If you submitted a story to us between 05/21/2024 (morning) and 06/01/2024 (afternoon) we did not receive it, even if you got a confirmation email. Please feel free to resubmit it. It will also result in some duplicate responses to submissions sent between 5/13 and 5/21. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Last update for the evening. Still absolutely no answer. My sister-in-law was on hold with support all day, only to get to number two in line, and they closed support. We are very disappointed and apologize to our fans and supporters for the delayed outage.

Unfortunately, there is still no update on why our site is offline. This will likely impact our June issue's release. I'd hoped the folks at Midphase would have a solution for us. But nothing back yet.

30/05/2024

Morning update is that we have no updates.

30/05/2024

As of right now there is no resolution from our hosting provider. The only thing we know for sure is that it is not a payment issue. Otherwise we just have theories at this point. We will continue to update here as we know more.

29/05/2024

Current update. We are still unsure what the issue is. It appears to be more than we originally thought. It could be another 24 hours before we know more. We apologize for this.

29/05/2024

We are currently aware of an outage on our website due to hosting provider updates. We are told we should be back online by this afternoon.

Issue 26: August 2023 The Lie You Live With by Carol ScheinaFor my first four years, I never heard a lie. From the day I was born, Mom and Grams swaddled me in a fuzzy blanket, then wrapped my life in cold, hard truth. “Lies can be warm,” Grams said, deep in her corduroy rocking chair. “You’...

Long Post:
First of all, thank you to everyone who has reached out privately and publicly regarding the AI art. We are doing a couple things differently moving forward. I don't think anything was wrong before, but I believe in learning and adapting. Here are the changes:

First and foremost, I've worked with the other art we have on the site. I've determined that, to the best I can, that was only AI generated artwork on our site. Thank you to our artists for helping us with this and not taking any of it personally.

Next, we have updated our art submission guidelines. We clarified a bit more and we set a rate for artwork rather than a fluctuating scale. While we do get some great art, it often doesn't fit, so we think clarified guidelines and set pay rate will help artists decide to submit.

Finally we have moved artwork submissions into the same submission manager as our writing. This will pose a challenge with file size limits, but we think it will be a better way to manage the art that comes to us. And we are working on a more structured art contract.

In transparency, we do not get enough art submissions to cover 12 issues a year. So we often find ourselves in scramble mode to find art. So, we are coming up with a plan should we not have art for an issue to avoid rushed decisions that could lead to a buying mistake.

You can help us out by sharing with your artist friends this link to our submissions page. Boost us with the art community because we think we are great place showcase human artists in the genres of Science Fiction - Fantasy - Supernatural - Superhero

Yesterday it was brought to my attention that the cover of Issue 18 may have been AI generated artwork. I launched an immediate investigation and discovered that it was, at least partially, AI generated. I have removed the artwork from our website and replaced it with a filler image.

Factor Four Magazine values human artists and deeply regrets that this happened. While I unknowingly bought and displayed AI art as a cover, I still take full responsibility for this.

I have used a website to purchase artwork for magazine covers, that despite saying they don't accept AI work, it is clear that not only do they accept it, they will not remove AI art if it is discovered. As a result I will no longer be doing business with them.

It will take some time, but I will be looking over all art work purchased through this company to ensure, as best as I can, that it is human artwork. Furthermore, I will be looking at stock images I have used both here and on my own website to ensure no AI is used.

Unfortunately there is no fool proof way to detect AI artwork, so we appreciate the person coming forward so that we could correct this. I apologize on behalf of Factor Four Magazine - Richard
