Every February, the country honors the contributions of African Americans who have helped shape this nation with their Brilliance, Beauty, Boldness, and Being.ย This year is no different! โœŠ๐Ÿพ

We wish to recognize, Janice Burgess (1954-2024),ย  former television executive, writer, and producer for . She is the BLACK woman ๐Ÿ–ค behind the creation and production of The Backyardigans (2008-2010).ย 

This series was Julia's absolute favorite when she was little, and still is our favorite!

Together, this show took us on adventures all over the world and we learned fascinating and songs.ย 

I learned the word GARGANTUAN from Tyrone! And my Julia learned about Chichen Itza from Uniqua and Tasha.ย

As I bid farewell to my 50th year of life, I can't help but reflect on how exceptionally fortunate and incredibly blessed I am. I take none of it for granted and am tremendously grateful for it all. ๐ŸŽ

Reminiscing on the spectacular moments that I lived celebrating my birthday a year ago on Moroccan soil is a gift all on it's own! And then I sprinkle in all the milestones accomplished by my family and the feels start to feel unbelievable. Thank you to all the Gods for my beautiful life. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Families in our community were already feeling incredible stress over mass deportations, ICE raids, family separation, and countless other challenges.

The farmworker, the nanny, the gardener, the housekeeper, the pool cleaner, the house manager, the family child care provider who now has also lost their home and/or job will need our collective advocacy and support MORE THAN EVER. Let's continue to ensure that their needs are represented in the media and public focus.

THANK YOU to every person, every agency, every small business, every volunteer and donor who are galvanizing and uplifting this commUNITY of essential workers.

As wildfires continue to devastate communities across LA County, we mourn the loss of lives and homes. While the public focus has centered on the impact on higher-income foothill neighborhoods, the unique vulnerabilities of other communities, including Latino neighborhoods, remain largely underreported. Our latest data brief sheds light on the unique vulnerabilities faced by Latino and underserved populations.

The analysis, published in collaboration with the UCLA Center for Neighborhood Knowledge, examines the compounded threats Latinos face during the ongoing wildfires, including:

- Greater air pollution exposure
- Health disparities
- Outdoor work risks
- Limited insurance access

The authors call for policy solutions such as expanding healthcare access, employer-mandated protections for outdoor workers, and investment in culturally responsive emergency preparedness programs to safeguard vulnerable populations countywide.

The lessons learned from their books have resonated so deeply I can't imagine starting a new year without carrying them forward to further transform my beautiful life.

๐”ฝ๐•ฆ๐•Ÿ ๐”ฝ๐•’๐•”๐•ฅ: I met Rey Mora in 2013, but in 2011, while in Buenos Aires, a friend (whose last name is Mora) helped me get his employee family discount at the 5-star hotel I stayed in during my Solo Trip to Argentina.

This meant that to receive the 80% discount ๐Ÿ˜ฒ off my stay, I checked in as Sandra Gonzalez-Mora (his pretend spouse).ย 

Who knew that the Universe would eventually give me this name.

Is this a classic case of kismet?ย 
Was I destined to have this name?ย
