There's a new city guide on my blog this week for , Bulgaria. Read the blog post to find out more about Sofia's burgeoning speciality coffee scene. I visited 7 coffee shops (plus one in ), where there was homemade nut milk (from Bulgaria's 'nut belt), coffee / eclair combos, and lots of great coffee and chats with lovely coffee people.

My recent birthday trip to NYC (my 33rd visit to the Big Apple) wasn't really a "coffee trip" but I didn't do too badly on the shop hopping front.

I visited new-to-me locations of Cafe Grumpy, Joe Coffee Company and Little Collins NYC at Grand Central, where I was staying. And further downtown, I went to Devocion USA’s cosy Flatiron cafe, avoided feeding any alligators at Do Not Feed Alligators, didn’t finish my novel at The Lost Draft, revisited a building I often worked in at my old job to raid the pourover bar at Drip Coffee Makers in SoHo, and paid homage to a favourite song on the new The National album at Ninth Street Espresso in Alphabet City.

I am often asked which is my favourite shop in the UK and although it's very difficult to pick just one, Colonna and Small's in Bath is right up there. Now there's a new Colonna in London — on Leather Lane in Clerkenwell, to be more precise. And just like the original, the sequel ticks my three most important speciality coffee shop boxes: 1) exceptional coffee 2) served by lovely people 3) in a beautiful space. There's a new Caffeine Chronicles post up on my blog today: New Ground Coffee has a new coffee shop and wine bar on Ship Street, in the heart of Oxford's city centre. I paid a visit when I was back in the Shire last weekend, and very much enjoyed both my piccolo and my pourover. The latter featured a guest Burundian coffee roasted by Nømad Coffee Lab&Shop. ☕👇
