We're pleased to announce a new album by two great improvisers: Amy Denio and Bill Horist. Amy is a unique saxophone/clarinet/accordion/electronics/vocal multi-specialist. Bill is an experimental guitarist extraordinaire. Their album, Church & State, derives from two recent live performances together in really special historic venues in Seattle - the Good Shepherd Chapel and the Georgetown Steam Plant. The latter was for a live soundtrack of the 1927 silent film, Metropolis. Check out the amazing sounds these amazing musicians created...

First of a few Halloween treats... This is the live performance of the original film score to the classic, and very spooky, 1950s film 'Dementia." It's performed by K. Edward Smith and friends in Fort Wayne, Indiana earlier this year. Minimalist avant-garde soundtrack highlights the movie's sometimes horror-noir vibe.

We're pleased to announce the release of a new album by pianist/composer Wayne Horvitz this month. He's known for his distinguished career in the NYC and Seattle music scenes. This album, "In Absentia" actually has no physical place. It's a series of collaborative trios recorded with an amazing cast remotely during the lockdown. Free improv at its finest, and collaboration at its most masterful.

Much talk about King Crimson's 'Larks’ Tongues in Aspic' at 50 (years old) recently. For those who’d like to hear more from that album’s percussionist Jamie Muir, here he is improvising with guitarist Derek Bailey on their album ‘Dart Drug’. It puts his contribution to Larks’ Tongues in some sort of context, although this was recorded later, following a seven year sojourn in a monastery. Beautifully put.

As a "senior", a "Boomer", a guitarist and lover of sound, I have weathered my grief as so many great artists whom I admire have died and, not being a genuine "social media" participant, have been silent. So many. So sad, yet so inevitable, yes... But I must, with all my heart, express my deep love and respect for the great Jeff Beck on this evening, upon learning of his passing. Jeff Beck LIT ME UP when I was in my early teens and he was in The Yardbirds, then beyond with his early Groups, all his various and varied projects. He represented true excitement on guitar, with sound, with tone, with The Blues, with ROCK. An ORIGINAL and outstanding voice that always straddled gritty/greasy/sexy and SUBLIME. As he progressed (important word here), he eschewed major rock stardom and instead embraced primarily instrumental, improvisational music (okay, some call it "fusion") and - crucially - never stopped growing, exploring. He, unlike any of his generation that I can think of, grew and grew and grew and developed a PROFOUND LANGUAGE on the guitar that is/was all his own. Jaw-dropping, inspiring, soaring forever forever forever.... Just had to say. I am so, so sad right now, but also want to scream JEFF BECK RULES!!! as loud as I can. All possible love to his family, friends, and fans. XO
