Thousands of Catholic faithful from the Archdiocese of Abuja, Nigeria today, Tuesday, May 22, joined their counterparts all over the nation to protest the killings of two priests and 17 worshipers in a church in Benué (state) by suspected herdsmen

My take: To engage in peaceful protest is one good thing but to tell millions of Catholics n Christians to get their PVC to VOTE Buhari out in 2019 is the best option, for his inability to completely handle the killings of innocent Nigerians by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The traditional rulers met with the Governor today (17/05/18), at the Palace of the Orodje of Okpe, HRM Orhue 1, Major Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd), in Okpe local government area of Delta State.

Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, HRM(Engr.)Mike Omeru Ogurimerime Ukori I, in moving the motion for vote of confidence, commended Governor Okowa for the respect he has for the traditional institution in Delta State, stating, "for the first time in the history of Delta State, we have a Governor who relates well with the traditional rulers to brief them about what his administration is doing."

"We raised some issues which he addressed to our satisfaction," he said, adding, "we are with you (Governor Okowa), come rain, come shine, and I, HRM Mike Omeru Ogurimerime Ukori I, move that we pass a vote of implicit confidence on the administration of Governor Okowa," the Agbon King stated.

Okowa, Uduaghan, Express Confidence That Warri Port Will Function Optimally Again.. As 1st Warri Economic Summit Holds

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, and his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan have said machineries are in motion for the dredging of the Forcados River which will lead to full operations of the Warri Port.

The duo spoke today (17/05/18) at the maiden edition of Warri Economic Summit held in Warri, Warri South local government area of Delta State.

According to the Governor, “it is our sincere hope that with the anticipated dredging of the Escravos bar, bigger ships can berth at the Warri port and this should lead more businesses to return to Warri, the industrial hub of Delta State.”

“Let me use this opportunity to commend the Nigerian Port Authority for awarding the contract for the dredging of the Escravos channel; this project is necessary for the port to regain its pivotal role in the economy and it is my belief that we can use the port as a platform to promote the growth and transformation of the State and national economies,” the Governor said.

The Governor disclosed that to ensure hitch free movement to the Warri Port, his administration has secured more than 50 hectares of land through the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom for the construction of tankers’ park.
While asserting that his administration was committed to providing a congenial atmosphere for private enterprises to flourish by proving peace and the building of strategic infrastructures across the State, the Governor stated, “the theme for this summit: Warri Rising is most appropriate, Warri is no doubt the economic nerve center of the State and also the most populated; it is that, which makes this summit critical to our overall vision to develop the State; Warri began trading with Europe more than 500 years ago.”

Governor Okowa urged the people to remain peaceful and avoid criminal activities.

To former Governor Uduaghan, “the youths must accept that the Warri Port must work, this whole exercise is about the youths, their future and I congratulate Hon. Tidi for organising this event.”

He noted that efforts are on for the dredging of the Forcados River adding that blame game should stop and the people should take responsibilities for their actions.

Former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Prince Raymond Temisan Omatseye, said, Warri Port cannot function with collaborative efforts with other local government areas.

He emphasised that the Escravos Bar will be dredged for the Koko and Warri Ports to be functional and called on the youths to ensure peaceful environment for development projects to take place.

Chairman of Warri South local government area, Hon. Michael Tidi had in an address, said the economic summit was important because, “Warri needs to regain her pride of place as a business hub in Nigeria and in West Africa and the 2-day summit is to rebrand Warri away from negative connotations of the last decade or two, identify sector Warri can be number 1 or 2 in business within the next 3 years and identify what can be done to revive maritime trade in Warri within the next 6-12 months.”

THE SUCCESS OF EKITI STATE PDP GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARIES- ANOTHER LANDMARK FOR GOVERNOR OKOWA

By Chris Odia.

(Ekiti 2018: Prof Kolapo Olusola Emerges Ekiti State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate As Gov Okowa Gets Accolade Over Free And Fair Primaries.

The incumbent Deputy Governor Prof. Kolapo Olusola has Emerged Ekiti State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate for 2018 Governorship Election .

The Primaries which was peaceful was conducted by the Governor of Delta State Sen Ifeanyi Okowa.

The incumbent Deputy Governor Prof. Kolapo Olusola won by 1,191 votes to defeat his only challenger Prince Dayo Adeyeye who polled 770 votes.)

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to demonstrate that the old adage- “The downfall of a man is not the end of his life” was well thought out because it transcends human realm to institutions and organisations.

After the unexpected defeat of the Government in power in 2015 and the consequent cross-carpeting and decamping of legislators and members of the PDP to the APC, political watchers were quietly beginning to write off the PDP. In fact not a few were bold to openly call it a dead party.

Surprisingly though peculiar with fair weather politicians, was the fact that so many previously high ranking PDP members, whose action/inactions actually combined to drag the Party to its kneel were also not left out in the derogatory statement against the Party.

The media was littered with the comments of these political bourgeoisies, suggestive of a party whose possibility of rising again was tied to some unseen powers or “miracle” of some sort.

While the predictions on the fate of the party continued, the incumbent party, APC, in an attempt to drive in the final nails on the ‘coffin’ of the PDP opened so many can of worms that revealed suspicious financial deals by high ranking PDP members, especially those who continued to identify with the party. Majority of those cases are subjects of litigation till date.

Sequel to all these, few Governors elected on the platform of the PDP and other ideological party faithful, rallied themselves together with a seeming ideology which in my own words is “Redeeming our Party through Proactive, Principled, and Pragmatic Deliveries”. I would frankly adjudge this ideological approach to be the baseline upon which the party is being repackaged for Nigerians, with a view to becoming a vibrant alternative to the APC.

Among several outings after the loss of 2015 presidential election to the APC, is the Ekiti State Gubernatorial Primaries held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Prior to the Primary election, the Party had set up a reconciliation team that sat together with several contending interests to come to a truce. The resolutions at the meeting were thereafter kept.

The stage being set to conduct the gubernatorial primaries, a trusted and trustworthy hand was required to organize the election in line with the new ideology; the search found no other person but Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa. Upon his shoulders was laid the onerous task of organizing credible primaries in Ekiti State.

H.E. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, having previously led the team that organized the non-elective and elective conventions of the party at Abuja in 2017, set out to conduct a free, fair and transparent election that would be acceptable to all. In his words, to aspirants and delegates, he assured them that their votes would count.

True to his words, the process was open and subject to a general interpretation that the electoral committee was not in for any patronage or jaundiced considerations to satisfy the desire of any friend or colleague.

Obviously, the body language of the electoral committee led by Gov. Okowa showed that they did not have a ‘favoured candidate’. No wonder when Sen. Olubumi stepped down and collapsed her structure into that of Adeyeye, there was palpable fear on the faces of some delegates who felt that it was now a case of ‘Anything can happen’.

At the conclusion of the election with the incumbent Governor’s candidate declared victorious, the visibly excited Gov. Ayo Fayose, declared in his closing remarks that Gov. Okowa would be hosted in Ekiti State until Friday, May 11, to help the APC conduct their gubernatorial primaries, which was earlier accompanied with fighting and disruption.

The working Governor has continued to demonstrate capacity in State administration, party politics and national assignments. He is principled in dealings, pragmatic in ideas and proactive in actions; no wonder he continues to beam the light in our democratic voyage to all and sundry.

Once again, he has achieved another landmark; all and sundry in Ekiti State received the result with equanimity and obviously would close rank and work together during the main election.

Without any doubt, Gov. Okowa is a political titan, with widespread acceptability that continues to spread across aboard as the days roll by, there is the need to pull strength together in support of his quest.

Let’s Bring Back Ekwueme in 2019!!!

GOV. OKOWA FIRST ACTION

Immediately after the inauguration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the governor on May 29th, 2015, he made it quite clear to all that he was in a hurry to transform the Delta State peculiar terrain.

Gov. Okowa
The first thing he did to show that he meant business was to intervene in the Benin-Warri Expressway (a federal road) by fixing the failed portions of the road. Dr. Okowa’s road imprints are now seen everywhere across Delta State.

In Asaba, the capital of Delta State we have lost count of the number of roads the Delta State government has constructed or refurbished. Dr. Okowa’s administration has even advanced further by going into roads in the difficult terrains of Forcados and Burutu and some riverine areas of Warri South West, Warri South and Warri North – places where princes feared to tread.

One novel thing about the roads embarked upon by the Delta State government is that they seem to concentrate on economic roads that would positively affect the economic fortunes of the people in the affected areas.

The Governor does this by opening up roads that link the hinterland where it would become easier for food stuff and goods to be transported to the upland markets. Dr. Okowa have added new roads to be executed taking advantage of the dry season in addition to the over 90 roads project that have been completed or are at different stages of completion

GOV. OKOWA’S JOB CREATION MODEL; A CONTEMPORARY PERSPECTIVE TO DEVELOPMENT

BY CHRIS ODIA.

The vision of the incumbent Governor of Delta State, H.E. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa is a strategic one targeted at job creation, generate and sustenance of businesses and to stabilize families and communities within a framework of equity, fairness and justice.

On assumption of office in May 2015, The Governor unveiled his ‘Dream Delta’ with the acronym ‘SMART’, wherein he summarised his vision for the State.

This was greeted with much enthusiasm by Deltans because it was a demonstration of preparedness for the assignment to lead the State to great heights.

The vision for Delta State, which is an acronym encapsulated as SMART has the first letter ‘S’stand for

- Strategic Wealth Creation Projects and Provision of Jobs for all Deltans

A careful observation of most contemporary development models, especially among countries that were previously at same rate of development with Nigeria, would reveal that promotion of SMEs has engendered the needed growth and consequent productive capability of such nations.

Obviously, the role played by small enterprises in any economy attracts certain attention because small enterprises easily have the potential to generate employment, as well as alleviate poverty; especially in an environment, like Nigeria, with increasing population, unemployment and widening income inequality.

The administration’s initiative of a Job Creation office and the consequent introduction of the STEP and YAGEP programmes are testimonies of how entrepreneurs could be raised from among previously unemployed youths. The focus of this programme on aquaculture, poultry, piggery, crop farming, vocational skills and business/entrepreneurship training is legendary and commendable.

This skill-training of able-bodied youths in diverse sectors of economic productivity is the way forward in re-orienting the populace from long held focus on white collar jobs. Little wonder recently, the President advised youths to embrace farming as the way out of poverty and lack. Gov. Okowa had already gone ahead of such thoughts. A Visionary indeed!!

The monitoring and mentoring aspect of the initiative is a demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to this course. He has put mechanism in place to ensure that after the training, the trainees are not just left alone to fend for themselves but are monitored and rendered needed advice when necessary.

This has led him to establishing the Directorate of Youth Monitoring and Mentoring (DYMM). The directorate is basically charged with the responsibility to monitor these youths while on training, mentor and monitor established youths until they are able to stand on their own. Their assistance would be to the extent of offering business clinics, micro credit and agricultural extension services.

The widespread nature of the Job Creation programme across the entire State, with various business clusters at diverse locations in the three senatorial districts is a testimony of the Governor’s desire to ensure that no part of the State is neglected in the scheme of things.

It is worthy to note that consequent upon a detailed assessment of the entire programme by the World Bank, a partnership was struck with the State Government for assistance in empowering trainees, after completion of the programme with starter packs. Definitely, the World Bank as an impartial intervention agency would not stick out her Head to support a wishy washy initiative.

Indeed, the Governor had said that “people may not realize what we are doing now, but the Delta State of 5-10 years ahead would be a Delta with so many growing small and medium industries”. The Governor is on course and on this pathway, would actually succeed in raising young entrepreneurs who would drive the economy of the State in years to come.

The publication of armed chair critics and media show of ignorance towards the administration’s projects notwithstanding, H.E. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa is positioning the State on a pathway of holistic development. He deserves more years to watch these initiatives finally established.

Let’s return Ekwueme in 2019!!!
